About Accords and speed

People say they would go with any other coupe than an accord in the honda lineup. I beg to differ, first because the accord has a wider stance so right there is better handling. Secondly if you are looking to do performance stuff the larger engines fit right in to the car. I just recently posted my accord on this site it is the white 96 on the second page of listings. The h22a jdm engine is a direct bolt in because the accord sir-t in japan has the same engine destroked to a 2.0 and it is called the f20b, so unlike civics you don't need to screw around with engine mounts. And i'm sorry but uless it was a gsr engine in a civic there is no reason to even swap because why spend the money to have a car that doesn't even reach 170 horses. That is just my opinion and also you get more respect doing up something othere than a civic because the pope probably drives one as well because there are so many of them.

Peace out

I half agree with you. The main problem is that you have to spend a lot of money to make an Accord quick. You have to spend thousands of dollars to get the H22 in and just be on par with a stock H22A Prelude.

I love my Accord and all, but I just don't think it is built for all out speed. It does have a good autocross platform though, if that's what you're in to.

vtec212 03-19-2002 03:13 PM

the money you save in buying an accord vs a prelude gives you enough money to have the h22a installed and still have money left over.

azn_nite_ryder 03-19-2002 11:35 PM

i agree.. accords are not meant for speed... just eye candy!!! YEa

da_konig 03-20-2002 11:42 AM

I have a 95 accord with a JDM H22 a getting 186 to the wheels with bolt ons(detuned from 196hp because of reliability) and me and my raced the other day in his b16a hatch gutted with only 140 to the wheels and I barely pulled him its all about hp/wieght ratio. Granted when I am running gutted I wlk his ass by atleast 3 cars. Thats why people use civics as a race platform the weight. I also have a 100shot NOS making the car 278hp to wheels and 303lbs tq but for those V8 boys.

vtec212 03-20-2002 04:13 PM

It doesn't matter if you win by 3 inches or if you win by a mile, its all a matter if you won or lost. Like you said he had his car gutted, if everyone gutted their cars they would all be considerably lighter. But as you stated you still beat him....thats all that counts. As far as people using civics for bases for race cars...yeah that obviously makes sense, but how many of us put over a hundered thousand bucks into a car, probably none. Which is why I was saying that you can save cash with the accord and do other mods as well as the engine for the same price as the prelude.

vtec212 03-20-2002 04:17 PM

Oh yeah another point to the person who stated that the accord isn't meant for speed just eye candy. That is only in this country. In Europe they have the accord type r and in Japan the have the accord sir-t. Which has the same power as the prelude and a lot more than the civics. So basically for american standards they all suck, because they screw us on all the performance cars, and give us the granny mobiles;(

94_AcCoRd_EX 03-20-2002 04:35 PM

If you're building a honda for drag racing... just buy a used civic hatch and put an H22A in it (~$5000)... why bother with the Accord. Plus when you drop the H22A in an Accord (or civic, but those are much cheaper to begin with) you have to redo the suspension b/c it will not handle the extra weight well in the front.

vtec212 03-20-2002 04:43 PM

you are 100% incorrect about redoing the suspension in an accord if you put in an h22a. In japan the accord has the f20b which is the h22a detroked to a 2.0. So there is no suspension modification needed. We weren't talking about building drag cars so I don't know what relevance that statement had to this forum

94_AcCoRd_EX 03-20-2002 05:03 PM

You're right about the Civic, I was off on a tangent.

As for the suspension... are you saying that the H22a weighs the same as the F22B1?

vtec212 03-20-2002 05:06 PM

Read what I wrote again. I said the f20b, not the f22. The f20b is a jdm spec engine.Meaning in japan only. The h22a and the f20b are the same engine except the h22a is a 2.2 and the f20b is a 2.0. Like I said it is in japan not america that they have the accord sir-t

94_AcCoRd_EX 03-20-2002 05:25 PM

Yeah, I know what you said. What I'm saying is that if there is a weight difference in the American Accord engine and the H22A that you'll be swapping, it should throw off the suspension. Am I incorrect in assuming this?

vtec212 03-20-2002 05:27 PM

you are incorrect because that setup is the same setup as the japanese accord with the f20 b

Doesn't anyone else think that the added weight of the H22A would change the handling of the Accord. I'm not saying it makes it undrivable, bc it doesn't, but if you want a good handling car, you're looking at custom spring rates.

And vtec212... lets leave the petty name calling out of this, even if you weren't talking to me.

vtec212 03-22-2002 02:00 PM

the reason i called him a moron was because he took a statement i made and tried to play it off as me quoting a movie. Sorry if the word moron makes everyone mad, but i will say that its stupid for people to say crap that doesn't pertain to the conversation. And try to throw a dig at me at the same time.

And no to the previous comment it won't throw the weight off because the car was designed and has that motor in it. How many times do i have to say that the accord comes with the exact same motor already in it in japan, except it is a 2.0 and called the f20b

Nah man, the F20b is a DOHC. This page: http://asia.vtec.net/article/CF4/ has a little about it.

But does the JDM Accord SiR use the exact same suspension as the USDM Accords? For some reason, I don't think so, but I can't seem to find any info on it, so I'll just leave this topic be for right now.

vtec212, I'm not doubting in the least bit that the SiR has the F20b in it - I know you're right on that one. Can you point out somewhere I can read about the suspension on the SiR vs. the USDM Accord?

ebpda9 03-23-2002 01:41 AM

man i just realize how much my accord sucks. It is a pretty interesting car and sounds to be fun.

my intention wasn't to create havok in here... and no it wasnt a personal stab at you.

but tell me this... is there any way on earth you could have said it like that (or even said it at all) without seeing that movie?

ps. accords rule. that's all there is to it.
