Who Needs VTEC? 02-27-2002 07:23 PM

H22 Question

Is it possible for an H22 motor to hook up to my 91 accord automatic transmission or would i have to buy a manual with my motor for it to work?

Maxvla 02-28-2002 02:32 AM

from what i hear on other threads the h22a is sold with a manual tranny attached. maybe you can get it seperately but i dont think it will work on an auto.

Well, the manual Accord tranny can be used with the H22A, so... I guess the auto tranny could bolt up the the auto H22A also? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, because someone else asked me this awhile ago...

who needs VTEC anyways tho right ;)

Cool, that's what I thought. Thanks :)

i would tend to agree...never done the swap....but it seems logical since the h22 is available with an auto....but if i did it i would use the sport shift auto from the late ludes anyways ;)

One more comment on this: you're performance will suffer from using the Accord tranny (auto or stick). The Accord tranny is more "econo" geared, while the prelude tranny is slightly more aggressive.

 Kick me outta here? Lol, what are you talking about. Or maybe I'm just brain dead after doing engineering problems for the last few hours.

Ah, ok... just making sure :D

slowEJ6 03-01-2002 01:44 AM

why not just go with the auto from the H22A too though? the entire conversion isnt that expensive to begin with.

Ok, here's the full dilema. I have a tired 135k mile EX motor w/ an auto tranny. I don't have THAT much cash, but i do want more performance. Would it be completely stupid and ignorant to just buy the motor and hook it up to my auto and buy the stick (from a prelude) at a later date? the only reason i want to do this is because i can't save money long enough to do a full swap at once. Thanks

94_AcCoRd_EX 03-01-2002 10:04 PM

You'll end up paying a lot more money in the long run if you go that route.

Maxvla 03-02-2002 12:12 AM

basically you will be paying for the labor twice. and thats about equal to half what the motor costs.

slowEJ6 03-02-2002 11:02 PM

why cant you save up?
thats your best bet, is to get it all done @ once.

ChrisCantSkate 03-17-2002 08:51 PM

90% of h22 engines come with a manual tranny bolted onto it. the p13 tranny is much more agressive than an accord manual tranny even (i had one on my last prelude damn f22a1) i know the engine has ALOT more power, but the gearing keeps you up in the high rpms much better. also the swap is very easy if you think you have the capability of doing this on your own, you could save a few hundred right there
