HSTuners - Monte Carlo, Talon & Me

Its about 6:30pm and I’m on my way home from my fiance’s house. The traffic is still a but heavy since rush hour is still lingering around. The light ahead turns red so I naturally slow down. I glance over to my right. Suddenly out of thin air a red Monte Carlo zips passed me and barely brakes in time to stop. I thought, “This guy is an idiot”.

Well you can all guess what might happen next. The guy and his friend both look over and give me the “Wanna Race” look. I’m definitely not going to turn down a race. He could’ve been in a Lamborghini Diablo and I still would have raced him. The next thing I know the driver of the car behind me is hanging out of his window yelling at the guy in the car next to me. Obviously friends.

We wait for the light. The light hits green. He floors it. I wait a bit. Drop it from 4000. The tires squeal and I’m off. He had a good 3 car lengths on me. I quickly made those up and was side by side. Another red light is ahead so I start to slow down. He keeps going. He finally realizes that the light is red and slams his brakes at which point his rotors start emitting showers of sparks. I had to do a double take. Sparks? Apparently this guy abuses his brakes on a regular basis.

The race is over. Nope. This guy still wants some. Now keep in mind that there is traffic on this road. There is a car in front of me and a car in front of him. The light turns green. And as I thought, he starts riding the car in front of him. By the time we get to the next light both lanes are clear. I thought, “I’m going to end this now. Maybe if I beat him bad enough he’ll quit”. Now I like a good race as much as the next guy, but I won’t endanger other drivers in the process.

The light hits green. I drop it from 4000. The tires sing their song and I slam it in second. A nice chirp and I’m gone. I left him immediately at a car length which he never made up. As I approach the next light, I glance down to realize I’m at 95 MPH. The light turns yellow. I prepare to stop. This time a car is ahead of him and no one is ahead of me. “Aight, finally I’m done.” Nope. His silent friend in a Talon is behind me revving away. “Great. How is he gonna race me from behind?” Alright I’ll give him a chance then.

The light hits green and I take off. I get ahead enough to give him some room to get next to me. He starts catching up quick. As soon as he’s lined up, I drop it in 2nd and take off. At this point he either gave up or couldn’t keep up because he never made it.

Now I decide I need to part ways with these guys before I get in trouble. I turned off on a side street and they continued ahead weaving in & out of traffic.

Oh yeah....then VTEC kicked in....;)
