man that thing SUCKS
I bought one from radio shack about a yr ago just to do some speaker work for a buddy. It barely worked at all...took it back same day

Thanks Pat. I was doubtful anyway.........

I always wondered how the hell those things are supposed to work. I don't know of any metal besides maybe (MAYBE) titanium that can create and dissipate heat that quickly...and I doubt you'd sell anything titanium for such a bargain price. Bah...I'll stick to my plain old soldering iron. I'm a big boy...I don't care if I burn myself 1 out of every 500 times I use it. Burns heal...shitty products are everlasting.

AzCivic 03-13-2006 10:02 PM

does it even heat up or does it use some kind of electric charge?

pdiggitydogg 03-13-2006 10:03 PM

I couldnt get the solder to melt, just get mushy...so I say it doesnt do anything :D
But its supposed to heat up....."supposed to"

I would think that any kind of arc welding would be extremely unsafe for your average homeowner. Then again, the average homeowner probably wouldn't have any problem trying to solder that pesky valve on their propane tank. Let's face it...people are idiots. That's why I still see ads for these things on TV. Even if it does work like they say it does (highly unlikely), who in perfect health is going to solder something then immediately stick the tip on their finger. Hey...I got an idea. There's a crocodile...let me go stick my dick in it's mouth. Looks safe enough.

sicones 03-14-2006 03:39 PM

I have a weller gun in my garage, and a regular 30 watt pen type on my desk, its really nice for the price the best soldering iron I'v ever used the tip looks like it will last forever, heats up quick
