HP Drop in Acura's?
Just notices a few things:
Acura RL 2005 HP 300hp, now 2006 its 290hp Acura TL 2005 HP 270, now 2006 its 258HP There are similar trends on the Honda side to. What gives? |
it's the emission shit man. SULEV stuff.....

Since they all passed 2005 emissions have the emissions requirements changed for 2006? |
I think it is more about having the least emission numbers, not so much of passing it. Most Honda motors from i-VTEC generation are detuned via computers and exhaust components. However, these i-VTEC motors also react pretty well with bolt-ons and aftermarket ECU upgrades to make up for power increase.....

i think it's the new SAE regulations in hp measurements
|
Same with the RSX...the remodeled 05 model came out with 210..the 06 got down to like 205.
|
i thought they changed the how they measured the power, like stefan said. would that be the problem?
|
Auto makers are also doing a preemptive strike on future emissions standards. They know years in advance what the standards will be for the future and it's no big deal to meet them now. Plus they can claim that they're doing good by meeting the standards of the future today.

exactly, also with less horsepower wouldnt there be less fuel consumption? of course depending on the styling of the vehicle? maybe that would have something to do with it? |
eh, that's probably gauged more by displacement and driving habbits, but i'm sure it does hold some truth.

well driving habits is always a variable, but if set with a constant. idk jsut seeing as how most of the low emissions, fuel conservative vehicles have low HP numbers. i mean my echo can easily get 40mpg if i drive nicely, but I'm one for running the rpm's up high lol I don't get 40mpg all the time. |
my legacy gets around 29mpg in the warmer weather and doesn't look as gay as an echo, plus it has to power to haul 5 asses inside the car;)

11mpg more is a lot :-D and hey i didnt pay for the echo, free car > your car:D |
I dont think customers would thank you to know that cars have been de-tuned from one year to another. It has to be something along the lines of how they measure power. The mpg has not changed from one year to another.
