i think i am fooked.....BAD

ok so after like 2 weeks of looking for my car keys. I can't find the fockers...It is not a key ring either, its JUST THE SINGLE BLACK MASTER CAR KEY....the only copy i have for my prelude. Anyways, is there a way I can get ANOTHER key made? i know it has a chip in it and they aren't cheap. but i need to get in my car and i can't even do that!! any suggestions?

i can't believe i lost it

pimpinprelude 12-27-2005 05:08 PM

if you need to just get into your car, take the black weather strip at the base of the window off. then take a metal coat hanger and pull the arm with the thick metal rod attached to the bottom UP. that will pop the door lock open.

ahh those years as a delinquent are paying off..

Grip72 12-27-2005 05:15 PM

haha...well i need to get into it for the radar dectotor and sunglasses and som eother crap, i mean i won';t start driving it again until april or so..but it'd be nice to have a damn key!

pdiggitydogg 12-27-2005 05:35 PM

really...I dont think we should be openly telling the dumb theives how to break into our cars...

Really sounds like youre going to have to get a new key. I believe if you go to a Honda dealer, with your vin and title, they will make you a new one. Yes, expensive, but personally, I dont see another option.
(I always keep a spare key in my wallet)

CD5Passion 12-27-2005 06:34 PM

a dude at my old work showed me how to unlock a integra with my accord key...beleive it or not depending on what key you have you can unlock almost any honda/acura vehicle before 97:D

pdiggitydogg 12-27-2005 06:36 PM

eh, my old gm key would unlock a lot of fords
I used to know the ratio of keys to vehicles, but forgot...its actually not that great

CD5Passion 12-27-2005 06:51 PM

it was just amusing to me because he was like "let me see your key.....ok lets go outside to my teg" lol
and he unlocked his integra in 5 seconds lol

Grip72 12-27-2005 07:06 PM

wow....that's kind of scary!

ohiochica 12-28-2005 01:57 AM

dude, i may be able to help ya, dating a locksmith can come in handy.

do not peel your weatherstripping, call out a locksmith or get ahold of me and i can possibly get john to cut you a key based on your keycode and tell ya how to prgram it yourself.

mylittlecivic 12-28-2005 05:02 PM

ill just come up there and find it for you, I can find anything:wave:

GT40FIED 12-28-2005 05:29 PM

One word man...slimjim. I picked up 2 sets (not just the metal bar...they come in sets so you can use it on different makes) at a trade show a few years ago and it's saved my ass and the asses of many others. I keep one in my truck in case someone else needs to get into their car and one at home in case I get locked out (in which case the ones in the car aren't much good.

Grip72 12-28-2005 05:32 PM

ya ok, i know i can berak into my car..bu ttaht won't do me any good still cuz i DO need a key to drive it haha

well i called honda

Mr. Haan 12-28-2005 09:55 PM

can't you just take the title of your car and one of the cylinders from the door or ignition with you and have a copy made that way?

Grip72 12-28-2005 10:39 PM

no..they need to "code" it

i think that's high tech talk mumo jumbo for "we test if the cut key works and charege you $50" haha

actually the coding comes from a chip hidden inside the key, and they need to program the ecu to work with the new key. just show honda the title and registration to the car and they should be able to get you a new key.

Exactly. It's not some sort of scam...well...at least not one that Honda engineers didn't think of. The chips sends a message to the computer to let it know that you've got the right key for that car. While it may be easy to open the doors with different keys (the Japanese are a few decades behind the US in key tolerances), be happy your car won't actually start with just any key. My truck is like that. I hate it, but at least it means some dumbshit fuckwad can't just stuck any key in my ignition and make it run.

ChrisCantSkate 12-29-2005 10:24 AM

wow ive hqad this happen to me a few times before... i usta get keys for free from my honda dealer or for under $5 a key with just my VIN, drivers licence, and insurance card.

ohiochica 12-29-2005 10:53 AM

not a bad price.......it runs 150 here. thats the price u pay for stupidity. make sure u get 2 keys made this time.

ps the door key only uses 7 cylinders where as teh ignition uses 9.

Grip72 12-29-2005 06:26 PM

the key works for both the door and ignition

i posted this on another board and a few fellow preluders said that sometimes they cannot just make a black copy. they will have to issue a red key as well which can cost like $1500....i hope whoever said that is a drunk mess

i must find this key....i looked up down left right and center and i can't find the mother focker

ohiochica 12-30-2005 02:04 AM

yes the one key works both but the ignition uses all the key cuts where as the door uses only 7.

ohiochica 12-30-2005 02:06 AM

wtf was he talking about red key? it should definately not run more than 200 us dollars. call a locksmith, they do this shit every day, a dealer doesnt do this very often. they often make duplicates but that is a much simpler programming prossess
