impact sockets...
 

anyone know where to get some quality ones for cheap? Craftsman sockets are kinda expensive but at least i know they got a good warranty, but is there anything comparable for less money?

also what happens if you use regular craftsman sockets w/ a impact ratchet or wrench? are they known to break?

i use craftsman. so i wouldnt now what to compare them to.

I use normal sockets on my impact and they work fine never had a problem. I also run craftsman. But i also got some Ampro ones from Advance Auto since thats where i work. There pretty cheap plus Lifetime warrenty if they break u get new ones instantly.

Not sure if they have them out there, but there is a ReTool here, that sells used tools (including craftsman) for very good prices.

Me...Id just use regular sockets, bust them and take them in for replacement.

yeah I'll just run the regulars and see what happens.

btw, I got a craftsman 33gal for only 242$ w/ that 10piece ratchet,wrench,hammer combo. I feel like i accomplished something important by getting that deal.

lol, i used my craftsman regular sockets on my impact wrench. the only problem i had was the 1/2" to 3/8" reduction. they tend to snap so easy, so you might want to have some on hand if you do not want to take a trip to the store every time one breaks

good to know. i'm not sure i even own one of those.

I've never been able to break an impact socket. Even the cheap ones from like Walmart.

I was just gonna post that link to harbor frieght, I use regular chraftsman sockets on my impact wrench, the square part gets a little rounded, but then Ill just bring it to sears to get a new one, I still stay away from cheap hand tools, every cheap hand tool i'v used I have snapped

i checked out harbor freight before I made the post, but that whole store just has a feeling of cheapness and everything is made overseas. its like the walmart of tool stores.

Acutally Harbor Freight stuff is pretty damn good. I got some of their power tools and have had them for couple years not had any problems

Man...I was trying to remember where I bought my tools. It's fucking Harbor Freight. Haha. Yeah...they've got a lot of good stuff on the cheap.

I'm thinking about selling the ratchet that came w/ the compressor since it only hits 45ftlbs, this: Chicago Pneumatic 7830Q will hit 90ftlbs and its supposed to be quieter too.

I think Im the only one that hates harbor frieght. I bought some line wrenches from them...all they did was open up and start to round fittings. I threw that garbage away and bought some better tools.
But, I do have a tq wrench from them thats lasted (Im fairly surprised that its accurate)

i feel poor when I go there :D

has the ratchet i want at the top, it says it "offers the most torque, 90ftlbs" but then you scroll down and supposedly there's a couple that'll hit 125-140ftlbs from the same company. Does that seem odd?

Not really. The right tool for the job, I guess. Some people don't need 145ft/lbs so why spend the extra money? I'd just get what you think you'll need as far as force is concerned.

i just went to the CP website and it says the strongest one they make is 90 ftlbs. i guess that other website is messed up or something.

anyone wanna buy a 45ftlb craftsman ratchet, brand new?

yay I sell all this stuff and actually know what it all means!!! hehe I work for an industrial hand tool distributor and we sell some craftsman and armstrong and allen and a bunch of other stuff too. It's good times when i, a girl, knows more about the stuff than our distributors that call in. But we all hate sears in there because most of them don't know what their doing either. Yesterday the one lady I work with got a call about craftsman christmas tree ornaments....what do they not understand about "we only manufacture hand tools"???

out of our 3 brands that I listed the Allen is the cheapest, but just as good quality, but the warranty sucks on it...so it's just ends up being better to pay the little extra for the better warranty then too.

the difference between the 2 types are the impacts (sockets, extensions , etc) are a softer metal so they "won't" snap when using air tools, and the standards are a harder metal and thus somewhat more "fragile" making them more likely to brake using air

and the impact sockets are way thicker

Same here.....

I use a set I bought from Nothern Tool. The problem with those sometimes is that the side wall of the sockets are so thick that I couldnt use it on tight areas.

Harbor Freight has some decent stuff. Not all but just be careful on what you buy.....
