Pcmcia

So my cd-rw drive died on my ancient laptop.
The computer is equipped with usb 1.0 and I was wondering if a usb 2.0 PCMCIA card would actually run at the 2.0 speed, or if it'd only run at the 1.0?
Im already buying a cheap external writer, to get by for now, and was wondering if I spent $10 for the 2.0 card if I could then take advantage of the drives faster speeds, or if I'd be limited to old speeds (4x write).

Are the card slots that magical? I see there are firewire cards too?
Man I hate computers

I'm not positively sure, but as long as your running windows XP, and using that usb 2.0 pcmcia card, and the device you are using is usb 2.0 compliant, then you should acheive usb 2.0 performance.

However, I know that on a lot of desktops, usb 2.0 support is crap for anything below an 865 chipset (for an intel mobo at least). This really only applies to the bios being able to take advantage of usb 2.0. This should be irrelevant to you.

If the card isn't much, give it a try. I think it will work.

Any second opinions?

i don't think it will work. i think the older pc cards are very limited in speeds.
