Huh...Sounds like...
Sounds like my mom ran over a clown.
Theres this sound coming from the front driver's wheel and I cant figure out what it could be...never heard anything like it before in my life (at least not on a car)... Sounds exactly like a balloon being deflated with the end being tightened to squeal. Sound goes up and down in frequency depending on the speed. Does not change with spring/shock load or when turning. I checked it out and found nothing visible (ie plastic bag, junk on the rotor, axle). Any suggestions other than a clown trapped under there? |
I have no idea, I guess I can ask my BF to see if he has any ideas.
In the meantime, dude, if it's a clown, ^5 ! |
rotor rubbing on the rim?
|
Wow...a clown under the car.....
new brakes haha |
Yikes`!
|
i hate clowns so if it happens to be a mini one.. im glad its stuck under your tire..
|
No, its not the brakes; I looked at those. Pads are pretty decent and the rotors (from what I could tell by looking) are straight and smooth.
Whats strange is sometimes it can be constant and other times it can disappear...then it'll 'chirp' or squeal like the balloon for an exteneded period, whether the brakes are applied or not. If it was something rubbing it would make that intermittent sound (chchchch), but this is a solid balloon squeek (eeeeeeeee). |
maybe a wheel bearing going out? They tend to make more of a scraping sound, though.
What about the halfshafts, or cv joints? maybe they are old enough that something is about to let go (or already has?) Isn't it frustrating trying to track down a weird sound? Kill the clown! |
does it sound like maybe an alternator problem, cause i know before mine went it squeeled like a ballon, also check your belts
|
Nah, cv's would click while turning and bearings are scraping (like my input shaft).
Its definately coming from the wheel area. I had her drive around the neighborhood while I hung 1/2 my body out the rear window listening. Not a belt...that sounds different and there are no belts in that area. |

and besides have a distince sound that you know when it's a belt....fuck dude...i'm stumped... |
i still say the brakes. look for uneven worn pads. i know my accord sounded like a bus at times
|
But with brakes its always pretty high pitch...this can be really low too.
|
hmm only things i could come up with would be bearings, and if not that maybe a bad PS pump??
|
no...its the wheel area...
bearings sound different Screw it...Im making her take it in. Techs can deal with it |
