Input shaft bearing

Anyone replace one yet?
Im hoping I'll be taking on the job tomorrow (if I can get the parts at the dealership).
Any tips would be nice

AzCivic 03-10-2005 10:30 AM

you might want to replace a few other easily accessible bearings and then maybe the seals as well, also just keep track of how the mainshaft/countershaft/shift fork assembly all go together as well as how the little shift arms should be. and clean the magnet.

and go ahead and throw in a quaife ;)

I've never done any tranny work. I need to. i would install an LSD in that shit too if I ever fuk with one

pdiggitydogg 03-10-2005 04:25 PM

Think I should just replace the clutch while Im there too? (Just an exedy oe spec off ebay)
Im almost positive its the OG clutch.

(Today I clicked over to 90k miles!)

AzCivic 03-10-2005 04:54 PM

yeah i'd definitly without a doubt replace the clutch/resurface the flywheel.

pdiggitydogg 03-11-2005 01:01 PM

Bought one last night ($65 on ebay...blew my mind).

Do I need to seal the tranny after Im done? Liquid gasket?

AzCivic 03-11-2005 01:10 PM

yeah it'll need some liquid gasket, your also gonna need a larger sized allen wrench

pdiggitydogg 03-11-2005 01:26 PM

Allens I've got....but how big are we talking?
What kind of gasket stuff do I need? Silicone?

esthirteen 03-11-2005 05:30 PM

clutch is kind of fun to replace. had to replace one on my old integra when i had it...good learning experience..

AzCivic 03-11-2005 06:07 PM

its called liquid gasket the part # is 08718-0001 the allen wrench you'll need is a 8mm, which you use to take out the sealing bolt that lets you access the snap ring.

pdiggitydogg 03-11-2005 06:25 PM

Crap...I didnt know hondabond was $12!
Cant I pick some similar sealant at autozone?

Edit**
Confirmed that HondaBond is Permatex Ultra Grey...The Permatex is less than $5.

How many of you can get friction modified tranny fluid OUTSIDE the GM dealer?
I went to 4 stores and none of them carried it. You'd think here, of all places, would have it in every store.

JDMFantasy2k 03-15-2005 01:47 PM

lol how ironic

AzCivic 03-15-2005 05:06 PM

just bend over as you walk ass first into the GM parts department ahahahahaa!

sicones 03-15-2005 05:16 PM

what about those lucas transmission additives

pdiggitydogg 03-15-2005 05:25 PM

Because lucas sells something that totally destroys oil, I refuse to buy anything from them.
Forget it...I'll use the honda mtf

AzCivic 03-15-2005 05:38 PM

do you have a grind or something?

pdiggitydogg 03-15-2005 05:46 PM

yep, 3rd gear

AzCivic 03-15-2005 06:38 PM

i'd get the synchromesh then.

pdiggitydogg 03-15-2005 07:25 PM

Well its not bad, and its a 'sometimes' thing. I REALLY dont want to pay $13+ a bottle for it.

AzCivic 03-15-2005 07:50 PM

it only takes 2 quarts i think, and voila your grind will vanish. c'mon EVERYone is doing it, don't be a square, ahahhahaha.

pdiggitydogg 03-15-2005 08:05 PM

Total L7, I know...
I already HAVE the honda mtf though...Ive got at least 1gallon of it left over from the last "group tranny flush" that my friends and I did last spring. (The guy that bought it thought it was 4qts each.)

FINE...I'll hunt some down tomorrow....

AzCivic 03-15-2005 11:53 PM

won't you like not having the grind? save the other fluid for your swap.
