Skunk2 Cams Suck

this is what they did to my boys motor (he is the one sponsering my car (Lyna this is Jer's motor)

pdiggitydogg 01-25-2005 08:43 PM

what was the lift on these?
Was he using higher grade springs to prevent the piston and valve mating (to stop production of little baby parts)?

GT40FIED 01-25-2005 08:45 PM

It looks like someone set the timing wrong...or the cam was too big. Unless the cam(s) actually broke (something I've never seen but I'm sure it's happened to someone at sometime), it's probably not Skunk2's fault. An engine is like a computer...only as smart as the person using it. Engines and their components can't make their own decisions. That's a shitload of damage though. I hate internal engine work.

soundspeed 01-25-2005 10:19 PM

Ouch!!! A costly mistake if it wasn't the right cam or wasn't set-up properly. What's he gunna do now?

ebpda9 01-25-2005 10:29 PM

looks to me more like it was a timing issue there, not the cams or valve train's fault.

mavaaoife 01-25-2005 10:50 PM

no idea.. he is rebuilding it i think

AzCivic 01-26-2005 12:20 AM

thats weird, why are two cylinders fine?

ebpda9 01-26-2005 12:28 AM

that's why i am inclined to think about the timing issue: exactly the firing order: 1-3-4-2

IALuder 01-26-2005 08:40 AM

Sunk2 sucks period.

but like GT40 said. you got to be as smart as the car.

mavaaoife 01-26-2005 09:51 AM

this isnt the first person ive heard with these problems... I asked him about timing issues as well and he told me he had everything tested properly. He said as soon as the vtec hit.. it blew

JDMFantasy2k 01-26-2005 10:21 AM

vtec lobes must have been too big for his application or something. just doesn't sound right to me. It seems skunk 2 knows a lot more about building engines than we do since they build 250hp NA b series when called to do so, so something couldn't have been right.

pdiggitydogg 01-26-2005 11:16 AM

was the engine clayed beforehand?

Precisely what my next question would've been.

AzCivic 01-26-2005 07:50 PM

ditto.

MissJDM 01-27-2005 03:03 AM

Holy Jeebus, Karen. I wonder wtf happened to Jer. I haven't really kept in contact with many from SR except Josh and a few others.

Timing issue.

Is that a fxcking rod I see?

KwikR6 01-27-2005 10:22 AM

Highly doubt it was the cams fault. To my recollection Skunk2 makes some decent shit...They worked with my buddies B16 that is fully built and has had the shit kicked out of it for 3 years now...

pdiggitydogg 01-27-2005 12:04 PM

I still say their A-arms are pos

ShEaNy 01-27-2005 08:21 PM
