Nitrogen filled tires

Yes, it works on plane tires. Yes, it works on race cars.
Does it have any benefit on street cars? Im looking for personal experience.

I saw that Costco is now offering nitrogen filling, which surprised me...since discount tire and the rest are not.

(For those that dont know, Nitrogen is an inert gas that does not contain water vapor like compressed air. Nitrogen leaks much slower than air, as well - meaning tire pressure should remain almost constant for much longer.)

The thing is, I want to say I remember seeing costco selling it for $5/tire. ...Nitrogen doesnt cost that much...

5 bucks a tire doesn't seem too bad.

pdiggitydogg 12-18-2004 01:19 PM

does when air is free

from what i knoe the nitrogen is ligther than air too, so you might see some benefits on a street car, but for $20 to fill up the tires i'll pass

Yeah that would be cool, but not very cost efficient. That might be something cool to do in the summer time though...

maybe if it was 5$ for all 4 tires.but 5 bucks a tire,I'll stick with free air.

Mischief 12-18-2004 03:47 PM

well how long does it last?

IALuder 12-19-2004 09:40 AM

if you dont have a leak a long time.

i will pass tho. plus hoiw much lighter is it?

pdiggitydogg 12-19-2004 09:48 AM

not much, really
air is 78% (or something like that) nitrogen anyway

ShEaNy 12-23-2004 12:11 AM

i got mine filled with it...it apprantly is lighter and has bigger molecules so they wont escape through the tire wall as easy....but for some reason...my tires are looking a little low..but it has been...at least 3 months since ive got them filled...im just going to put air in mine for now... see the comparasion...
