Dissapointment

Ok Steve, I know you're gonna hound on me for this but I went and saw The Grudge....in short it was absolutly horrible in between the scare scenes....
and I've figured out the problem, American Actors for the most part completely suck at acting. Nearly the entire time I wanted too punch Sarah Michelle in the face everytime she spoke. had there been no american actors it may of been that much better. But before I try please someone tell me that Ju-On is much better. it had an interesting and good story to be told, but the way it was deliverd by some of the acting was terrible.....

^yeah i'm just going to wait until it comes out on video to watch it. "saw" looks like it might be okay but who knows. Never seen Ju-on.

The only reason I'd bash you is because you went and saw it in the first place. Of course it's going to suck. How many Amerikan adaptations of Japanese movies have been good? The Ring? No. The Eye (which hasn't come out yet but will be coming out)? No. Shall We Dance (yes, that new film is a Japanese remake that got shit on)? No. THEY WILL ALL SUCK. The only reason they work so well in Japan is because they're creative and leave a ton of loose ends (and Darin, you should know a thing or two about loose ends:D). Amerikans like to have everything wrapped in a nice little package that comes together at the end (something I suspect Darin is also familiar with:D) and gives us all a warm fuzzy feeling of closure. But yes...Ju-On was much better. Actually there are 4 Japanese Ju-On movies..."Ju-On", "Ju-On 2", "Ju-on: The Grudge", and "Ju-On: The Grudge 2". All are surely infinitely better than the Amerikan piece of trash, though I've only seen the first one which kicked much ass.

CD5Passion 10-26-2004 01:19 AM

oh so there's actually 4 different Ju-on's. Yeah one thing that pissed me off is that we went to see it with a female and she said the ending sucked, which kinda threw me off because the ending leaves you wondering and open. I thought it was a decent ending, fuck happy endings

but anyways I'll have to see these other Ju-Ons. I didn't even want to see The Grudge to begin with, my friend wanted to see it and it was a better option than sitting at home

GT40FIED 10-26-2004 01:31 AM

In the first one nothing is explained and the ending is so wide open you could drive a truck through it...which rules because happy endings blow. Here's a short list of movies to watch from Asia to cover yourself as they are all of sufficient badassity (I will, of course, assume you've already seen "Hero"):

Suicide Circle
Ju-On (any of them)
Visitor Q
Both "Battle Royale" flicks
Ong-Bak
Fist Of Legend

Then you'll be able to say you've seen some of the most bad ass Asian cinema ever.

IALuder 10-26-2004 03:30 AM

yea, i only watch the asian versions. america ruins good forgien films.

as for ong-bak. i went to suncoast, best buy sam goodie, none of them had it. so im back to square one. DLing it.

GT40FIED 10-26-2004 05:44 AM

If you have bittorent, I got it from The Pirate Bay. There's TONS of great Asian stuff there. You just need Vobsub to see the subtitles for some of them.

IALuder 10-26-2004 09:19 AM

^ahh why thanks Steve. that made things a lot easier!

MissJDM 10-27-2004 01:34 PM

Unfortunately, I saw The Grudge after hearing good ratings from some co-workers. My theory? Never listen to a damn thing my coworkers say! It reminded me of The Ring.. the only scary chit was those damn asian faces..which appeared over..and over..and over again. Did anyone find the ending odd? I feel like I'm the only one that didn't realize it was the end.
