b16a2 quick ques.

Im starting to save my pennies for a b16a2, but ive searched with no luck as to how you can tell the difference between the 99si b16a2 and the 92-95 ones? (on most sites Ive checked theyre both listed as b16a2=me confused) Because I need an obd2 to stay legal. (keep in mind im still pretty ignorant on the whole topic)

Is there a smog test in MA? It's really about the same tho. If you ask me, I prefer OBD1 anyway. Less prone to CEL.....

Youre not going to be able to tell unless you call and ask.
The USDM blocks will say "b16a2" on them where the jdm blocks will just say "b16a" and will be obd1 or 0 depending on the yrs.

Your best bet is to just look for a usdm a2 block from a 96-97 del sol vtec or an em1 (thats 99-00 civic si)

But like therms said, if you dont have testing then you really only have to worry about doing the obd wiring conversion (makes it easier if you get an entire obd1 engine harness off a 92-95 civic ex/si)

Yea I do have testing over here, thats why I was kinda staying away from the older ones. But yea I guess I will just haveto call and make sure beforehand like you suggested, thanks.

well with a 99, youre limited to a em1
(I forgot to look at your yr)

Good luck finding one of those

you can change your OBD and stay smog legal cant you? why would it matter?

pdiggitydogg 09-26-2004 02:18 PM

when you swap, the engine must be the same age or newer than the chassis
(Thats regardless of whether your state has checks or not)

Its a stupid law and Im sure a lot of classic cars break it regularly

JDMFantasy2k 09-26-2004 05:59 PM

even if the motor is new (ie: rebilt with forged internals)

I used to live in Houston TX and that place was pretty strict to smog laws...... but I still passed my inspection even with the GReddy with gutted cat and open WG. I was lucky enough to take it some asian dude who does Honda modifications too. My visual should've failed but the actual smog test actually passed... I was like WTF????? ... just glad it passed tho :D

I know all the more popular sites to buy swaps but which would you guys suggest is my best bet to find an em1 b16? I would need the whole package of course and not just the longblock.

probably importautosalvage.com
