What the hell...pt. 2
 

Ok...so Stefan helped me work some bugs out of my computer, but now I'm stuck with a problem. After my computer's been on awhile the amount of processor being taken up gets higher and higher. Eventually it starts bouncing between 75% and 100%. After checking my task manager I notice that some program called svchost.exe is sucking up most of the processor...roughly between 55%-65% or so. At first I thought it was spyware so I threw everything I had at it. Xoftspy, Spybot S&D (v1.3...thanks Stefan), Norton AV, and Adaware. I mean I kicked that spyware's ass. Not only did I kick it's ass, but I killed it's father and raped it's mother. By that I mean every piece of that shit that is detectable to these 4 programs is GONE. But this program, svchost.exe, is still sucking up my processor like a cheap whore sucking dick for rock. I can't close it using the task manager, either. At first I thought it had something to do with my internet connection (and maybe it does), but even with my modem (cable, btw) unplugged it's still running pretty high and I still can't close it. What the hell do I do about this and more importantly, what the hell is this program?

it manages the services running on your machine. there must be some program that is tied up to it. i have about 6 instances of it running, but it doesn;t suck up the system resources like your does.

Man...now I'm even more confused. Haha. Even after reading that I still can't figure out why it's sucking up so much of my processor.

Only install Ad-Aware on your computer. Spybot comes with spyware, adware, and malware when you install it. So do a lot of other programs. Update your reference file for Ad-ware. Some adware you have to remove manually by editing the registry. Also, what other background services are you running? How much memory do you have, and what is you swap-file like?

Do you know this for a fact, or are you guessing that by the name "Spybot" it actually is a spybot? the terms spyware and spybots are used interchangably by some people.

As I understand, spybot s&d is a legit program, with no fun little "extras" like some programs like to sneak by you (ahem..gator).

Considering the huge amount of reviews and support for the program, somebody would have picked up on any strange activity by now. and also no other spyware detection tools redflag spybot s&d as a threat.

actually from what i read adware and spybot are the only spyware detection/removal programs that don't have any spyware and them, and best of all they are free

i have the same problem but it hasnt crashed my shit in a while tho.

Now here's something interesting. While running Notron AV, I trip across 3 trojans. Now Norton says it can't repair the files so all it does is quarantine them. A few scans later (probably about 3 or 4 days later), they pop up again...same result. Any way I can get rid of these if Norton isn't doing the job? They all appear to be related files...just in different places.

Sadly, I am a computer technician, and I know for a fact it installs 3 pieces of adware upon it's own installation. How do you think spybot is available for free? It's free because there are built in advertisments, and although it will remove adware, spyare and the likes, it will not remove the ads it installs itself. Ad-Aware is developed by lavasoft, and they get their money from the full versions of Ad-Aware.(Ad-Aware can come with a realtime monitoring agent, but you have to pay for it) Spybot would not be redflagged by other removal managers because it does not use activeX controls like adware, malware, spyware, and data miners. It is just another application. Some adware can only be removed manually in safe mode.

Find the name of the trojan, browse to symantec.com and search for removal methods for the specified trojan.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I just want to know more about this.

what exactly does it install? and if its "adware" how come I never have problems with advertisments of any kind on my computer?

I'd be more willing to believe that its talking in the background relaying technical information and such, rather than doing exactly what the program was meant to help stop.
