good deal?!?!
this is from another board based out of a town 6 hours away from me. The shop is called Zippys and comes highly recommended for turbo work. here is the quote the guy gave me.
"We are located in west Edmonton, not far from WEM (West Edmonton Mall). I would recommend a DRAG turbo kit for your application. Kits come complete with the following: Drag High flow 4 into 1 cast iron turbo exhaust manifold Turbonetics T3/T4 High flow turbocharger assembly Turbonetics Deltagate Mark II Wastegate (7 PSI Spring) Drag High Flow front mount intercooler w/ polished cast aluminum end tanks BLITZ Super Blow Off Valve Drag mandrel bent high flow chrome plated intercooler pipes Drag mandrel bent high flow exhaust down pipe Drag wastegaste dump tube assembly Drag Blue silicone hose and hose clamps Drag High pressure/High volume inline fuel pump Drag Boost dependent FMU fuel regulator Intake air filter assembly Map sensor bypass valves Stainless steel braided oil feed line w/ fittings Oil return assembly All necessary hardware and fittings All necessary hose and hose clamps All necessary gaskets Installation manual 1 year warranty on the parts included in the kit. The kit is going to be $4500, that is a landed price in Edmonton. Once the kit is in house the install will be 2 days. Zippy's is typically booked up at least 2 weeks in advance. Zippy's shop rate is $85 per hour with a lifetime warranty on the labor. Estimated total of parts and labor would be $5860.00 Plus GST. Let me know if you have any further questions concerning any other parts or turbo kits available. I can source anything at competitive pricing." NOW is that EVERYTHING i would need for a turbo kit? or am i gonna be looking to add a few more things? DAMN turbo kits are expensive! |
whats that in american money? it seems a little high but if its installed and has a 1 year warrenty then i'd probobly go for it.
|
like i said before (fron hondaten's info) preludes do not hold boost well in stock form. Resleeving is a good idea and do not skimp on fuel management (fmu's SUCK)
and yeah, that price does seem kinda high. Dont forget to factor in the cost of tuning. I didnt see anything on that in there. |
4,500.00 CAD
Canada Dollars = 3,442.95 USD United States Dollars 1 CAD = 0.765101 USD 1 USD = 1.30702 CAD |
resleeving means what?
|
installing thicker cylinder walls via machine shop so you dont break your engine

well it costs an arm and a leg to ship to canada plus customs taxes so they will get the higher price. it is cheaper for me to send something to california than to toronto in canada which is only 200 miles away from me |
I hope that $85 is CDN. I wouldn't pay more than $60USD per hour for labor. As for the kit as a whole, it seems like a pretty fair price. But like Pdiggs said, I'm not sure the motor would hold together well in stock form. Maybe hold off until you can afford a little motor building.

6 or 7 psi and you'll be fine, just dont abuse it
|
welll define "ABUSING"....how much "building" of my engine would i have to do? what sort of things are you talking about?

Try going to a local UPS warehouse and when you're filling out the customs form, check GIFT. It works like a charm  |

Somehow I don't think that would work with the gigantic box it would take to move all of that stuff. Hehe. |
I wouldn't use the gift thing on large items. I have a very good relationship with UPS, you can get away with alot but gift from a company UPS account doesn't fly.
You'd be better to have them under declare it then to say its a gift when its not. |
i think your going to destroy this lude. it makes me sad.

after reading this I think he wants to do more then he knows how to do and will either over pay, under pay and either way I think the thing is going to blow up. |

i'd say abusing is getting max boost consistantly when driving around normally. a basically stock turbo'd car isnt something you can beat on every time you take it out. theres lots of people running low boost stock h22's that have have very few problems |
well i don't want a crazy build up of my car. i just want a basic 8psi turbo....i know i don't sound like i know very much at all, but basically, i don't! That's why i'm on here alot trying to plan my car. I am debating if its worth turboing because that is $6000CDN and that's alot of money. So i'm almost thinking of just going header, intake, exhaust, and some other stuff and then modifiying its looks etc. We'll see how money is over winter
|
by the way, i never redline my car and i usually shift before Vtec kicks in or a bit after it. you guys talk like cars can't take anything at all and that you all think/expect me to fuck my car up....that makes me feel like poo

*Shrugs* I sent out a complete b18c1, tranny, axels, intake manifold/tb, ecu etc..at UPS..with the GIFT check and it was smooth. Done it a few times with Canada and the UK. Whatever floats your boat :) |
