EVO VIII vs. Turbo Teg vs. Turbo Civic
3-way race:
-EVO VIII with rechipped ECU and other stuff -My Turbo Teg -My friend's stock D16Y8 Greddy 19T *hondata + 440cc's dyno tuned @ 10 psi (221 whp 190 ft/lbs torque) We had to do it from a 45 mile roll on third gear, since my thrid gear grinds on the shift. Got them pretty bad. I thought the EVO would give me a good run..... The EVO and civic i guess had a good run. All I remember was that I looked and could not see them until I slowed down to exit the highway. |
 that must have been a sight to see. Got boost?
|
nice. i figured the evo would have kept up a little more then you say.
|
is yuor tranny about to go?
|
are you running the much power on the stock tranny....thermal your my hero;)

Third gear is really really really about to go. It used to only grind on high RPM shift to third. But now it grinds on any RPM as I shift to third. I'm pulling it off this weekend. My Teg is gonna be down again for a couple of months. My brake booster or master cylinder gave out on me today as well. I plan on building up the internals too but I'm undecided on the specs yet. I'm gonna try to hit about 450 whp this time. This means upgrading some of the fuel components as well, plus another dyno tuning session. I havent even enjoyed this set-up yet but I really dont like having a motor just sitting around waiting for a tranny. Got a contact dealing with RLZ, Rocket Motorsports, and OMNIman for tech solutions as far as the motor goes.
Thanks everyone. I rarely race and dont preach street racing. I just had to get a taste of the EVO VIII. I guess I'm a hypocrite in a way... ha ha... fuk it... |
Why does it seem that 3rd is the first gear to go on hondas, and why does it? Two friends of mine have the same problem.... just bad synchros or something?
|
my friend teg LS has the 3rd gear grinding problem also. he is looking to get a B16 tranny to get rid of the B18. something about better gear ratios.

Im gonna start calling you daddy thermal....:pfft: :pfft: |
Come to Cali. Come to Cali. Come to Cali.

brass syncros... one of hondas worst ideas ever. |

yea the 3rd gear on my si grinds like crazy at anything over 3.5k rpms...then wanted to charge for 300 dollars just to drop the tranny and look at it.....then the would have to decide if they could fix it under warranty |

and, using them on a tranny which is supposed to switch gears at 8.2k . . . . . . |
Nice double kill. Do you have any 1/4 mile times for your car? Sounds like you'd be a good match for my bro's 323GT. How did you get that much wheel horsepower and what are you pumpin to the crank? Canyon runs must be fun for you!:D
|
well, if you read thermals sig, he has around 310whp . . . . .

Dunno how much power at the crank. I'm assuming about 320-330. On turbo hondas, it's really about fuel and tuning. In my case, a set of 550cc injectors tuned by Hondata S200b on the dyno. I've decided to take another step and get some Cunningham rods and JE flat dish 9.8:1 pistons. I'm not gonna bore out the wall nor sleeve it... but I change my mine everyday. Who knows. Maybe my credit card can support... ha ha.. |
ya know with all the complaints on shitty synchros/trannys i'm surprised nobody has written up a tech article on how to change them.....
|
there are some on H-T or hybrid-garage. I'm just too lazy to look for it....:)
|
I'm impressed Therm! But I swear you're running more than 330HP to the crank, I would estimate closer to 340-360, or somehow you've accomplished an amazing feat of putting 90% of your horsepower to the wheels. I would absolutely love my car if it had that much whp. Anywho, happy tuning and keep up the good work!:)
|
thanks.... I want more. Not being greedy, just trying to keep up with my friends...lol. It gets old when I hang out with a 617whp civic, a 455whp civic, a 405 whp "untuned" civic, a 380whp ITR, and a soon to be low 11 sec to high 10 sec all motor CRX. All of them have built motors tho.
|
You know what you have to do then don't you?
|

yep... gonna turn up the boost to 30 psi on the stock 11:1 compression.... j/k.... ha ha ha.... the project is already on the go mang.... |
hey thermal, if i buy you a plane ticket a 6 pack of beer (your choice) you think you come up here and boost my lude?

This is kinda off topic, but arnt all dyno's different? Like, you could run ur car on one dyno, and then go to another one without changing a dam thing and it would read different . . . . |
^to some extent, that's true. All the cars I mentioned are off the same dyno tho.... We all have the same tuner....
|
that sounds convenient
|
On the integra trannies the 3rd 4th and 5th always go bad no matter what 3rd is the most common to go out..I would get a gsr tranny or b16 or something much better handle alot more and the casings dont bust as easy...Oh yea and dont even say it i know this thread is old but who cares....
|
lol... I do have a B16 tranny with quaife LSD....:)
|
when you say grind, would that be the same as when someone says "looks like you are dry shifting"?
when i shift at around 5k, it seems like every gear wants to "dry shift" and i have no idea how to fix it. ive already brought it to a tranny mechanic and they said it was fine. i dunno, maybe i have too much power for my stock tranny as well. and yea, wtf is up with 3rd gear? |
Nice job. With the power that teg has its not a surprise.
There's a Honda Service Bulletin out on the 3rd & 5th gear issues. I know. I had to have mine replaced when I had my Si. Makes a world of difference. |
