cleaning engine bay
 

whatz up! Ok I am cleaning the engine bay with some stp degreaser and engine brite. I need to know what parts to cover that can't get wet. here is what I got so far: Air Filter, Distributer Cap, Battery, and Ignition coil. I also know that there are some sensors that have to be covered. So please list every thing that can't get wet. Thanks guys. I love this board :yes:

i wouldn't be overly concerned about getting things wet. As long as it's not practically submerged, it should be okay. I did an engine treatment on mine i think it was like CD2- two stage engine bay cleaner, some shit like that. You spary it on and hose it off, and it came out mint and i didn't have any problems.

All I ever cover is the distributor and air filter. I use the gunk engine degreaser. Works realy well. The only problem I ever had was with aftermarket plug wires. They didn't seal very well to the valve cover and some water got in there. They were crappy wires though. You should have no worries.

I use wheel cleaner, to clean my motor. Works great, and makes the 'rubber' stuff look like new.

As far as getting things wet goes, I usually wrap the electrical connections in aluminum foil, and try not to spray water directly at them.

If you have an air compressor, use it to get rid of the excess water when you're done.

you can spray everything in your engine bay and not have to worry about covering up anything, unless you have an open air filter. just as an extra precaution, leave it sit to air dry

one time i knew a guy who cleaned his engine bay right after he came home from somewhere
cracked his headers so make sure it hasn't been ran for an hour or so

yeah if your engine is hot, dont put cold water on it,thats just common sense.
