Oil Leak

hello
I am having trouble sealing my valve cover. I have taken it off three times already and sealed it. the oil leakes out of the corners, above the headers, and basically every where. What am i doing wrong? I have tried putting rtv all around the mating surface but that just seams to make it worse. Am I suppose to let this stuff sit over night? I am using: FORM.A GASKET SEALANT fast drying hard setting "1B" by Permatex.

PS. Dont buy gass may 19, wednesday, Strike back.

Well your probably suposted to let it dry, also try GETING A NEW GASKET!!;)

are you cleaning BOTH mating surfaces before putting any permatex?

Also you should only need it at the 4 spots where the cam hump is.. the rest should seal evenly w/o any permatex.

gas not gass

Why not try a valve cover gasket from honda.

This is a new gasket. It says intstant dry, so it should be ok in like 30 mins. has anybody else had this problem? I thought it might be the sealant itself. it gets hard and when i remove the old sealant it is hard and brittle. i clean both surfaces very good. it seems to only leak out the exhaust side. Iwill try and put it only on the 4 corners. any more helpful hints would be great.

yeah, i do have the same problem on the accord. so far i could not fix it at all.

try the red stuff in the spray can its called "fix a gasket" or something and you spray it on and it gets tacky that what I used on my valve cover, but I never had a leaking problem.

You're probobly using the wrong temperature prematex...

It should be hard and brittle.. it should be rubbery and sticky...

Also I NEVER wait for it to dry... you just dab it on tighten it down and go... never had a problem

so it should or shouldn't be hard and brittle. when i first took off the cover the orignal rtv was nothing like what i am using. it was grey and rubbery like you said. th one i am using is black and when it hardens it gets brittle. am i using the right one? if not what is the right sealant.
