A new setup...opinions!

Ok...so as many of you know my turbo is off the car and it's running in N/A form for the moment so I've got a few options.

Option #1: Refresh the motor and stick another turbo on it.

Option #2: Build a big ass 351-based stroker motor...either a 408 or 420 and go straight N/A

Problems, you ask? Well...option 1 is a bit tricky. Another turbo would cost me close to $1500 for a T-76. I've got a good line on a T-91 that made 10 passes before the guy realized it was more turbo than he could use, but to make that work I'd pretty much have to make the car a dedicated race car. Plus I'd have to dump some more cash into refreshing the motor. Option number two means some suspension changes and a big lumpy, grumpy motor. I want to keep this thing as streetable as possible and I just don't know if I can make the kind of power I want with a streetable, comfortable N/A stroker motor. Maybe I'm missing something. What do you guys think?

well why not go for thesame setup you had before. seemed pretty sucessfull if you ask me

I say go for plan C! ;)

Seriously though, what do you want out of the car? I personally would want a car that handles really well, but thats just me. It seems to me that neither of your options match what your looking for very well.

As me.. I am going to rebuild my motor as well. but going a little milder than previously planned. Maybe only like 650hp or so. I am going to put my money into a new chassis from art morrisson called the GT chassis. It allows my car to perform .94g on the skid, and take the slalom at 49mph outperforming the new corvettes, NSX, Z3, and even the Ferrari 550.

Make it streetable GT.. not so it's a pain in the ass process to get it driveable everytime you wanna drive it.. no to race car.

I think you should put a B16 in it, and turbo that... WOOT!

Now THAT would be funny.. :D Though an S2000 motor/tranny may make alittle more sense.;)

Option 1...

IALuder 05-18-2004 02:32 PM

whatever you got the money for.

GT40FIED 05-18-2004 06:24 PM

Well I've got the money for either. The trouble with the last setup was that I was really pushing it hard for max power. I'm pretty sure this is why the turbo split in half, even though it was quite capable of much more boost. The tuning was set on kill and I always ran it on the ragged edge, even when I was just tooling around town. I need to get it up and going as soon as I can because my truck has turned out to be a total piece of shit (read: typical GM product) and I just don't trust it to be reliable anymore (after a whopping 16,500 miles!).I did love my old setup, but I don't know that I can justify throwing that much money into a combo I've already broken. Maybe it was just a fluke breakage...who knows.

I would go for option one.
