adding 2nd router

Can I add another router, linked THROUGH the first router/stacked?
Or do I have to figure out something else?

yeah, you can. usually they have an uplink port there

or you can manipulate a switch, or cross over wire...

Yes you can. If it has an uplink port, I believe you can use a normal cable, otherwise you might have to use a crossover cable. Check the book to see what you have to do, or tell us what model router you have.

i'm also adding a second router. Although, my situation is a little different. Tell me what you think I should do.

We already have cable broadband going through our router, and into a hub. I am going to be getting a second ip (my dad is worried about network security...whatever) for my system (which is currently not connected).

I'll need a second router, but how should I hook it up? through the first router or should I buy a 2port switch and run that from the modem to the two routers?

my machine will be for gaming and his machines are for business. he wants to keep them seperate.

well the router is a pos D-Link Di-704
(It was a school reject that I picked up for free w/o documentation)

There is a Com port on the back...thats it.
Cross-over?
I know squat about this.

first off how many boxes(computers) are you running total?
second how many ports does the first router have?
and how many ports does the second have?

Here i drew up some diagrams, with two examples. the first is two routers with JUST 1 lan and 1 wan port.... and linking them with a switch. the second is having two switches either both having a built in switch or only one having a built in switch. enjoy hope it helps!
