Bogging down BAD
so my mom's 97 DX coupe is insane bogging down in acceleration. also at idle.. it kinda sputters real bad. i already replced the air and fuel filters. you guys have any clue what it could be?
|
did you check cam timing and/or ignition timing?
has the timing belt been replaced recently? |
checked the spark plugs/wires?
try some carb/tb cleaner? |
ok it also has new plugs and wires (within the last 2 months) and i put a bottle of that cleaner in it last week. i'll check the timing
do you think it could be the fuel pump? |
did u refill the tank since you put the cleaner in it ? wiat for it to empty then refill. i know my car runs like crap with the cleaner in it.

can you hear it start up when you turn the key to the on postition? it'd be weird for a pump to go on a 97civic. |
i'll check that tomorrow

It could be the o2... mine has a loose connection and it bogs like hell sometimes...
2 good ways of telling are: A. If you FLOOR the car (pedal to the floor) it goes away... (at wide open throttle the car runs in closed loop (preset fuel maps). B. Unplug the o2 sensor... the car won't run perfect but it will run better than it is now... the bogging will be gone. It could really be a million things... how many miles are on the car? It's most likely a sensor or the fuel pump... could also be an injector or the fuel pressure regulator... Basically ANYTHING having to do with the ignition or fuel systems. Is it throwing any codes? (check engine light). |
no codes
120k miles when i floor it, it lags like crazy, no power and lots of stuttering for like 3 seconds |
I'd try unplugging sensors one at a time...
Try the o2 first... then map sensor. there are lots of possibilities though. |
