yeah...srt4....
|
ok what type of mods does it got? a stock sr-t cant have 500+hp.
|
it's still a neon (w/ nitrous)
|
no n2o... :|

if what you say is true, no nitrous, and he's getting those numbers, then very impressive.... for a bloody neon ;) |
Not a fan of those cars, but you have to give some respect for putting out those kind of numbers. I wonder how reliable it will be?

 Quote:
Actually, from what I hear, people with high hp SRT-4's they're pretty realiable, but then again, they're still fairly new, so we'll see as time goes on |
Well let's see.. anything above 500 hp (in my world) require at least forged pistons and rods. Forged cranfshaft is a good idea too. Plus considering mt T56 stresses with my motor, and my rear end is toast, I can't see a neon holding up to that.
|
it broke several axles on the dyno i guess

That's not nearly streetable as I see it. |
any fwd car making 500whp isnt really streetable
|
umm don't they have the 4g63t in them ? the same engine used in the evo and the older eclipses ?
|

no.....its an A853.....still a neon no matter how you cut it..or turbo it in this case. |
ya know...if we all went to a domestic forum and posted our dyno sheets, pics of our ride, etc. We'd hear "nice job..but its still a honda"
As long as we can respect power, thats what matters. |

very well said... holler |
Dont get me wrong i like....no no love power. But its the platform i dont like. Call me close minded or what not but still you have to admit it is still a neon.
|
well that would explain that it was running on 114 octane....it lost my respect despite the fact neons are ...neons

True.. but any grease monkey can build a strip car that makes monster hp.. If I wanted I could probably build a small block that makes 1000+hp.. but the real trick is driving your 9 second car to and from the track and getting gas at the AM/PM mart on the way there. |
not bad at all, the GT3040R is an insane turbo, we made 370 @ the wheels on 93 octane with my friends impreza, oh yeah that was at 16 psi....the block is built for 29-34 psi :)
|
Wow, that's impressive.
Streetable/Reliable, now that's another story. But we will only see with time. I can respect it. |
I think the point that lots of people are missing:
It still a 4cyl. engine. w/o lots of mods. Honda blocks (Bseries) are lucky to see 350whp (and even then it isnt anywhere near stock - ie internals) Dodge knows what its doing |
It's respectable...but does it really matter if the car isn't dyno-able...much less streetable? If it was snapping axles on a dyno imagine what it would do from a dead stop. It's respectable...but it's just stupid to build a car you KNOW is gonna constantly break stuff.
|
Yea that's not impressive at all.. like I said, take a 1000hp bigblock or smallblock and that's not bad.. make it something I drive to work everyday and that's fucking impressive.
|
Dude, how could you be sure that this 500 plus whp SRT-4 is not drivable on the street for daily usage. I dont think anybody here can claim that they know the dynamics of this dodge engine.... I sure dont..... Either way, this Neon will take most of us on the streets even if it was down tuned to 400 hp.........:bandit:

Braking axles on the dyno is not streetable at all... lol |
^^Exactly. I don't doubt the motor...it's the rest of the car I'm worried about. Factory boosted cars usually have great motors. Take the '03 and '04 Cobras...the crankshaft is good for 1000hp and the rods and pistons are good for something like 700-800hp. I saw a guy who'd pulled the blower off and slapped on a turbo and got 700hp with just some exhaust and the turbo (either a T-66 or a T-76...I don't remember). I don't think the motor in that Neon will give up...but the transmission and halfshafts are in serious danger.
|
Plus I wonder what happens to the rest of the car suck as frame? Also, 114 octane is far from streetable in my book.
|
Not if you feel like driving out to the local airport to fill up!

I don't understand how they got the car to snap axles on the dyno, breaking in axle in 4th or 5th gear is very interesting. i hope that car has upgraded brakes, i watched an SRT-4 owner today almost kill himself and about 10 other people racing an old NA 300xz, he had to take the shoulder and pass a semi not to hit one of 4 cars |
Well considering there is no leeway on the dyno for the wheels if probably would be similar to getting a great launch at the track (?). And if my frame doesn't hold up a neon frame sure as shit wouldn't. As for gas, 100 octane really isn't going to do a damn thing.. any idea what it's dynamic compression ratio or static was? Or final ofter full boost.
|
apparently this dude did not brake an axle at the dyno...... I know what you guys are saying. Dont get me wrong. As I mention before, I'm not a neon fan but with its capability pushing that much power.......streetable or not......... I will surely watch out for it............... and trust me, if can afford to drive with race gas on a daily basis, I will, regardless of how it affects engine dynamics.....fuk it. Maybe the rest of the drive train can handle it..... I dont know.... if not, then that's still lesser work than trying to get a Honda B-series to equal that power and restrengthen the rest of the transaxle................. lol.... dont ask me why I bought a Honda.....ha ha

What I am saying is the viper T56 6 speed is good for supposedly 450ft lbs.. give or take. Why would a NEON tranny be able to handle more than a tranny that goes behind a viper V10? |
Quote:
I know what you are saying! I never did say that this Neon will last forever nor will handle all the torque that it is putting out. My point is that it did on the dyno..... and yes, it will be dumb to say that it will have longetivity. Over 500 ft/lbs of torque is a lot..... you and I know that which is pretty much really too much for the street. All I'm saying is, it would be great to drive a car that requires less upgrade yet potentially powerful...... I still wont buy a Neon tho (no pun intended)........... nuff said.... |

but 114 low lead is much different then 100 octane |
