Looks like the supra just gave up actually..

GT40FIED 03-30-2004 04:21 AM

Seriously...listen to the cam in that Camaro. You think that Supra ever had a chance? That thing was camming so hard it was barely running. A sweet ass car but I'll bet that thing doesn't have shit for vacuum. Even if the Supra got a bad start, it still would've gotten owned anyway.

Yea it sounded good.. you can alwasy get vac though.. I have a cam with about 250 duration at .50 and pull 16" of vac off the manifold (with a vac can) with power brakes =/

MAXed Out 03-30-2004 08:00 AM

Nice cars and i don't think there are many cars that would have a chance against that camaro. It sounded similar to the Shelby in Gone in 60 Seconds.

Senshi 03-30-2004 08:16 AM

that supra didn't get owned

HEY GOT PNED, THATS RIGHT, HOLY DAMN, but theres gotta be a reason b/c i know a supra wouldn't loose by that much

The reason is badass V8 to put it bluntly.. It's not like it got owned by a maxima or something.. don't be so surprised lol

That wouldn't be too bad WITHOUT a vac can...but 16" dude? Good luck with hard braking...it must feel like stepping on a sponge.

Thanks for the correction Blawolf...he did, in fact, get PWNED. If that Supra was in the same power neighborhood as the Camaro, it was probably a dyno queen. That's one thing about Supras...I've never seen a high power TT Supra that could hook for shit so I'm not suprised it got waxed. Even at that, once you mod a V8 to the point that I'm sure that Camaro was at, there's not much that technology can do to take down a big V8 like that (and by "big" I don't mean a 4.0L V8 like they talk about in car commercials...that thing was a big block).

drdingo21 03-30-2004 11:03 AM

It looks like the supra got a bad start and just gave up.

But none the less it sounded like it would have lost reguardless.

GT ive seen a few 600+ hp supras that are daily drivers (obviously not at those boost levels) but there are a few out there. There are even some daily driven IS300s that are running 10s-low 12s.

GT40FIED 03-30-2004 12:05 PM

Yeah...there are a few out there. Just not many. I raced a Supra right after it got strapped down to the rollers and pushed out 800hp. I should've gotten my ass handed to me, but I edged the guy out simply because he didn't hook for like 2 seconds after the light. We tried again and he tried rolling it out softer and STILL couldn't hook.

But yeah...I would absolutely love an IS300...even stock. One of the few import cars I'd really like to own.

pdiggitydogg 03-30-2004 12:06 PM

I really wouldnt say it got 'owned'...looks like it didnt try/gave up

Im not saying that the camero isnt badass though...that idle lopes like crazy

This is a repost from a while ago - turns out the camero was runnin on alcohol/methanol. . . . . . w00t

V8killimports 03-30-2004 12:52 PM

I already tested it.. seems to brake fine.. and that 16" was before the vac cannister..

ChrisCantSkate 03-30-2004 01:17 PM

omg i want that camaro.

nindoo 03-30-2004 01:57 PM

I think the Camaro would win, but if you check the Supra it stops there's a car coming from the opposite direction.

Ammmmerican Musssssssccle !

nindoo 03-30-2004 02:08 PM

supra def got his ass handed to him...

GeneralDzur 03-30-2004 05:46 PM

Hey, you guys mentioned something about listening to his cam setup? How can you tell how a cam has been modified?

I actually decided against the IS because the thing has no power stock.

That camaro didn't sound like it is on the verge of dying.. there is a distict popping sound you can hear though. And depending on where you set the idle you can get a little more or less of this sound. My car's the same way. I turn the idle up a bit to hide that and mellow out the sound.

Like Dingo said, listen to the idle. It sounds like it can barely run. An aftermarket cam makes the car's idle lope (or fire unevenly compared to stock). The more irratic the idle, the bigger th cam. By the sound of it, this thing had a MONSTER fuckin cam.

Dingo...I hear ya, but the power isn't TOO bad. It's something like 215hp on the newer ones which isn't terrible...but not great. I just remember the one I saw with a turbo kit that made 600hp. I love the look of the car, it's RWD, and the idea of 600hp in a car that small is just peachy.

V8...16" BEFORE the canister ain't too bad. I thought you meant to total...that would totally suck.

I know, when i quoted one out i was looking at 38k and for being a luxury car you would think the thing made decent power. As for the turbo. It is un-godly expensive to turo one of those things, and forget about doing it on a 5-sp with out swapping out the tranny. But when you do get the too run good, look out. The only reason I know about them is because i was going to get one :)

I was actually just reading a thread about a stage 3 turbo running an 11 on its first pass. Ill see if i can find it...

Well we finished Lexustcy's car last week. We were happy with the dyno numbers - the car made 440 rwhp on pump gas at 16-17 psi and made 580 rwhp at 25-26 psi on race gas. Lexustcy's not coming to pick up his car until next week, but we wanted to see what it would run at the track. So, with his permission, we went to Capitol Raceway last night and got one pass.

60 ft 1.940
330 ft 5.003
1/8 mi 7.374
1/8 mph 104.57
1000 ft 9.394
1/4 mi 11.099
1/4 mph 132.59

Keep in mind this is a true full weight automatic street car that you would never know it's power potential when driving it normal. We drove it from the shop to the track last night and rolling on the highway 70-75 mph it would break traction Everything ran perfect and the trans shifted beautifully. We only got one pass before we got booted - I'm sure it will go 10's given another shot. It was nice meeting some of the other guys.

If someone has a video, please post it.
There is a guy that trolls that forum that is gettin 749 hp to the wheels, and drives it daily.

Those cars are badass. But if i were to get one, i would go with a used one. And they are all 215 hp. THey are beautiful cars...

*edit* they threw the video up. Im downloading it now.

And the sound that the camaro makes is what everyone strives for...

nindoo 03-31-2004 07:26 AM

I like the sound that car's make at really high rev's.

Formula 1 cars

I like way Supra twin turbo sounds

The sound M3 makes in high rev's

I like it when the engine's scream!!!!!

To me it still doesn't compare to the sound a monster cam makes at idle..

Nothing beats that sound.

MAXed Out 03-31-2004 05:34 PM

I dunno man i never gave it much thought but maybe I should look into domestics as my next ride even tho it wont be anythime soon but i loved the way the camaro sounds and i still cant get it out of my head. And the movie of the wicked IS300 is great.

drdingo21 03-31-2004 05:58 PM

I personally don't have a problem with domestics. I just choose imports because they usually last longer and the aftermarket for them is bigger, not to mention the styling.

But its all in personal taste, i never understood why people argued over that.

Not true.. Afterfarget for domestics is bigger than you could ever imagine. As for lasting longer.. you don't turbo/supercharge/nitrous a car to make it last longer.

drdingo21 03-31-2004 08:27 PM

Really, how do you know what i "thought"

THe after market world of domestics revolves around camaros and mustangs. Im well aware of the after market for the domestics, is more than huge.

And the lasting longer, i was refering to in stock form.

My friend feels the same way.

The engines have got a ridiculous amount of torque.

Its insane!

Who says I know what you thought.. and the aftermarket world for domestics does not revolve around camaros and mustangs...

For example.. there is more of an aftermarket for my 47 year old car than there is for mustangs, camaros, and even your honda.

GT40FIED 03-31-2004 11:12 PM

Domestics have a very odd aftermarket. Sure, you've got you Camaro, Mustang, Corvette, etc. aftermarket, but then there's the generic aftermarket. For instance...if you bought a set of 350 heads you could slap them on almost any 350 out there...whether it's a truck or a Camaro or an Impala SS (the old school Caprice-bodied ones...not the candy ass new ones). There's SOOOOOO much stuff that isn't model specific. Then there's stuff that isn't even brand or engine specific. No matter which way you cut it the domestic aftermarket dwarfs the import aftermarket at the moment. But imports are still young in the relative scheme of automotive performance so that may change in coming years. As for reliability...I won't even get into it because we could turn this into a 20 page thread debating that. But you're right about styling...that's 100% subjective. Can't tell someone they're wrong if they think a car looks good.

KwikR6 04-01-2004 01:10 AM

Domestics rule
I like my fuel economy. hehe
