Are Exployers reliable?
I've been looking at these lately & they seem really nice. But I've haerd bad things about them. Anyone here have any pesonal experiance with them?
& please don't suggest any forieqn made trucks in place of it, I want American. I've never had a forieqn car & I don't plan on getting one now. |
anythings reliable thats taken care of... i have a few firends with very high mile explores with minimal or no problems
|
they tip easily, I know you don't want to hear this, but this is my two cents. I'd honestly get something like a Tacoma, I've been looking at them and they are nice, especially the AWD V6 with the manual tranny:yes:
|
my mom has a brand new one. I tell ya its a POS.. They seem to have a brake problem cause its like everytime they change them they go bad again. Then the whole gauge cluster computert type thing has went out twice to where the gauges will stop working and go nuts. Then they was a popping noise when u would give it a big push on the gas. Found out all the bolts in the rear-differental were loose. So ya u tell me how reliable that is. My mom wants to get rid of it and get a RX8 which would be just badass
|
^you're talking about the explorer correct?
|
Most of them are decent...I'd avoid the AWD models though. Every model is going to have some lemons, but as an overall view I'd say they're decent to drive.

I like exploders a lot. Have lots of good momories in those. Have a friend that has a 91 2dr with I think around 170k miles on it that runs really well, not really any problems than the normal maintenance stuff. Another friend had a 2000 xls that he absolutely beat the hell out of and I don't remember any extra maintenance needing to be done to that aside from the occasional recall.
Look for one with the manual transmission, those are surprisingly quick for a truck. |
my dads got one we put 35K on it and the motor blew. it was a 2004 XLT. what a piece of shit. you know what ford gave him for a rental car a GMC van. they dont trust their own cars for rentals.
89+ fords suck. |
i drove a 92 XLT Exploder for a while after my teg was stolen. I liked it a lot. It only had 69k on it though.

See that's soo true. We had and explorer a 95, and it was fucking great. We took very good care of it, and everything worked fine. I don't think we ever had a problem with it. |
my dad had a old scotts dale. thing ran like new till he traded it in for the 04 explore. the only thing on that scotts dale was rust.
|
Ive seen some decent ones and ive seen so bad ones. I wouldn't get one but it's ur money.

Personally I hate the Ford Ex* line of maibatsu monstrocities. I have yet to be impressed with any of them, not to their trend to not hold an alignment worth a crap (Ford's trademark on it's trucks) and the wonderful rollover problem (but it plagues most any maibatsu monstrocity).
But yes, they can be reliable if good care is taken of them, as with any car but a Jag, Fiat, or Ford. ;) b |

i hope gt40fied doesn't read your post ;) |

Nah...doesn't bother me. There will always be those who are unenlightened out there. Every car has their lemons and you'll always find someone's who's "friend" or something had a p.o.s this or that. Unless you've personally owned one, taken good care of it, and it still broke down, please don't tell me they suck. I've fixed just as many lemon Hondas as I have Fords and GMs. |
*has a lemon honda*

I'm not sure what part of the offending post relates to the 'ole "hope GT40FIED doesn't read it" gag.....it's funny because I know way more people who've had success stories with their Explorers than who've had problems. But I'm still unimpressed with them, as a vehicle and "suv"......and the alignment problem is definitely a Ford trademark, although I recognize the reasons for their different design perspective......it's just not always practical. b |
maybe the answer hear is he should buy the Honda SUT. lmao
i have owned one and they are good vechile. but replacing a motor in a 04 at 35K miles. common thats shit. and ford only offers a 36K mile warrenty. so you think they know its going to happen and they just dont want to pay for the repairs. |
buy a kia!

I've got an '01 Accord with a 3yr/36k warranty, it is fairly standard. Only in the last couple of years have many companies expanded to 5yr/60k or the "amazing" 100k limited powertrain warranties..... Let's not forget that Honda has had it's fair share of problems. The auto tranny issue comes to mind quite quickly...... The issue here is the infant mortality rate. Yes, Ford has a higher infant mortality rate than Honda, but Ford has improved through the years lately. And once you pass the infant mortality rate, Ford doesn't vary too much on reliabilty from any other manufacturer out there. b |

I think he thought I'd get pissed because someone was knocking a Ford product. |

Oh, well....Fords suck. ;) Then again, I'm still considering a replacement for my overweight, underpowered, poor-handling Accord I've got. b |

Just lay off of Mustangs and I'm cool. Well..maybe Lightnings too. |

I'm not a fan of Fords in the least, but i have a lot of respect for the SVT Stangs and the Lightnings :P

Long live John Colletti and SVT! It's funny...if you look back on SVT, John Colletti's first job as SVT's supervisor was slapping together gold trim packages for Lincolns. Ahhhh...how far we've come. |
