 |
I assume, it was just a little postcard sized thing that required my signature and date and be sent back to illinios somewhere, guessing it's for selective service..super sh1tty
i put mine off for 6 months
eh...as long as we don't have a draft or natural disaster i think you're ok. so the big 18 huh? any plans, hittin up ybor or something?
dang i didnt know that you were that young. Im glad girls dont have to sign the draft crap:o

Eh, I think it comes back to kick you in the ass like if you're trying to get student loans and some other stuff |
it's actually the law, you can go to jail, though i doubt they'd go that far.
yea, i just got that thing in the mail too. It says on it that its the law, and that you can go to jail. I would send it in if I were you. All i have to do is call the number they put on the card and then type in the pin number they put on the card.
i worked with a guy who was 24 and hadnt turned his in yet.... so it is possible not to, but im sure that if your caught, they arnt nice about it

If the military has a draft, they have your name so they can pick you :) |
well without a selective service number you won't be able to apply for financial aid thru the government, or work for government agencies like usps and shit. also that thing is required if you are like me and need to apply for citizenship. i got the number 4 years ago when i turned 19 or so, and yeah, i was in the us when i turned 18, but no one really bothered to send me one of those cards ;)
I never recieved one, i live in florida now, ive always lived in the us, when i went for financial aid, they i was not eligable for the financial aid because of that so i signed up for that!
its cool i have ADD. They wont take me, my brother tried lol.
it also sets you up as a selected volunteer to help in any civil emergencies such as natural disasters and what not. like right now for example if there was a huge earthquake that devastated an area and there are not enough people to help(since all the national guard are in iraq) they will pull your name for involutary service to help.
dunno...I dont think i am going to send it out anyways...i go to college and receive financial aid...besides its only 2,000 a semester, its cheaper than wat my parents were paying when i was in highskool so i doubt that they'd mind paying for it if they do decide to take away my financial aid...
