Check this out, last night my amp starts cuttin in and out...why I don't know. So I take a look at it and all seems to be fine except that the screws that mount it came out and the amp slid around. So when I go to put the screws back in, they spark as they touch the metal on the amp. Now to me that sounds like a ground problem. So I cut all power to the amp, put the screws in and still nothin. I checked all wires incl ground and speaker, but the amp still won't come on or nothing (no red light). What other trouble shootin ideas are there for this problem?

Maybe you had some exposed powerwire or remote.


You checked the fuse?

If I had to guess, a power supply wire was in contact with the amp chassis from the amp sliding around. Then when you tried to put the screw in, it completed the circuit and you blew a fuse. It could be either your remote lead or your power supply- check both, as well as any internal fusing the amp may have. If none of your fuses are toast, check each lead with a voltage meter and see which is the culprit. If both are returning 12V, check your ground. A bad ground wouldn't cause the sparking you're desribing, unless it got looped back around and touched the amp chassis. If all of that is in order, I've got some bad news.... Smell the amp- blown amps are easily diagnosed by their unmistakable odor. If the amp still smells good, take the amp into a shop and have it benched. Other than that, I'm out of ideas.

All very good ideas, but I went to the good ol problems from before and had the alternator tested, and its puttin out 1.3amp compared to the 80 that it''s supposed to put out. SO I need a new alt and a cap now.

I dont see what that has to do with the sparks on your amp.

And if the alternator goes, your battery light (on instrument panel will light up.)

Yeah, the car wouldn't work if your alternator was toast. It also wouldn't cause sparkage. Are you positive you know what you were measuring?

just check all your fuses and grounds for the Amp...If nothing else you possibly could have messed up something internally in the amp...

But hopefuly not....Sparks like that though are wierd...:yes: :yes: :eek:
