Eh, folding is something that you run 24/7 in the background of your computer. It only uses the CPU cycles that you don't, so you don't notice slowdown. It studies the way proteins fold and mis-fold in order to hopefully prevent diseases. It does require an internet connection to send back the work units your computer processes and to get more.

If you decide to do it, I recommend downloading the text console. Also, when it asks you for a team, put 32 in there :)

I tried to do that for like a day...it didn't make any progress for me though

i tried doing that too, but my router was messing up things so i stopped.

i went with the first download...the recommended one (no text)
and Im rockin the team 0

Here's a stats page. It takes a while after you turn in your first unit to show up, but team 32 is overclockers.com and you can look under there to see how you're doing.

I don't really get it.

Basically, there are infinite amounts of data that Stanford needs to collect in order to better figure out how proteins fold. Since Stanford can't just go out and spend millions upon millions of dollars for huge processing facilities, they distribute the work out to people who would like to help a good cause. Your computer downloads the work, processes it, and sends the results back to stanford.

The whole points thing is just for fun and to keep people interested in it.
