Do you think doctoral deerge are more highest than master?

Yes, a doctoral degree is higher than a masters. First you get a bachelor, then a masters, then a doctorat or something liek that...

right...but not many people NEED their docorates...I especially hate it when teachers (non-college) get their doc. degrees...now, i know the only reason they have it is for bragging rights and so they can be called Dr. so-n-so. They get off on that bs

speaking of dr's...does anyone know what the hell Dr Phil is a doctor of? I bet its something stupid and has nothing to do with what he talks about...

well... at college you want the most educated people teaching you... well at least i do. i want someone who knows their stuff, and can explain difficult questions that you may not get with your masters. also alot of professors do other research or write books on their field to help it progress into new areas... without these "doctors" certain things, such as economics and what not wouldnt progress as fast as they do.

Teachers get their doctoral degrees because it moves them up the pay scale, though the difference between the highest Master's level (Master's + 45 credits in some districts) and a doctorate isn't big (less than $1000).


As far as instructor's in college, I'll take the one who will teach the material and explain things the best, regardless of whether or not they have their doctorate.

That depends on perspective.

Getting a doctorate, or I'll just say PhD, can be good or a waste of time.

A PhD is one of the best things you can do if you want to get into higher level academia such as College or University teaching. Of course with that comes research, there isn't a professor in the coutry who doesn't do research. If you want a job in the private sector doing research, a PhD is a good idea.

If you just want a normal job where you're not doing research like product development, sales, marketing, burger flipping, a mechanic, etc. a PhD won't help you at all.

Remember, a PhD DOES NOT MEAN THAT THE PERSON KNOWS MORE!!!!! I cannot emphasize that enough. A professor with a PhD doesn't necessarily know any more than one with only a Masters.

So what does a PhD mean?

It means you're able to do buttloads of research on a very specific idea and write a very long fancy dissertation about it. That's all it means, really......it shows that you can do research.

Adding more money for classes because they want to earn a huge money like a rich peoples do.

I agree with CrisCantSkate, u always want the people that teach u to have knoledge on what they teach and help u.

To elaborate a little more......(might as well beat it till it's dead right? ;) )

A PhD in the business world can earn you more money and more respect, but it can also be a hindrance. If you're looking for a new job, having a PhD can make you look overqualified so you may not get hired. Also since a PhD would usually expect to get paid more than a Master's or Bachelor's, again it's a higher risk of not getting hired. If you already are working, and are making more, you may be considered overpaid for the job and guess what.....when layoffs come up you're higher on the list of people to cut.

I'd only get one if you want to do research. And if you want to do research, I'd definitely get a PhD. :yes:
