ok...im done with this...I am buying...

well after 2 (count em...2 days!) of working on rear camber...and getting nothing, except for 7 cuts on my left hand and...1-2-3...8 cuts on the right, 1 chewed to shit bolt head and 1 that I cut all to hell in frustration (yay for rotory cutters) I have decided to make the big purchase of...an air compressor.

Hopefully that will aid in the removal of rusted to shit michigan hardened bolts and nuts with the aid of an Impact wrench/gun

So...someone explain to me CFM (I know what it stands for...just not anything else). And hp #...and...well thats all I understand psi and tank size and all that. I wouldnt ask but my sears is really really really ghetto and no one working there knows jack about anything except where to get really good weed...at really high prices...or so I am told.

Anyways....

I am looking at THIS ONE

Think its enough muscle for rusted-to-shit nuts/bolts? Seriously...I dont know if it is or if I should get something larger...or maybe its too big? All I know is I have a 1.5' pipe extension on my ratchet and I get nothing but rounded nuts/bolts 1/2 the time...no my manual impact driver doesnt work where I need it too...damn trailing arm...

So...fill me in kudasai

oh yeah, thats more than enough, just make sure not to strip the bolts...

AzCivic 08-24-2003 09:30 PM

uhhh bigger is better???? I really have no idea.

and that exactly what Im wondering...but current funds are super tight (damn school). Buying this compressor means no tires on the rotas until later...but the hell with those...I "need" this biotch

nonovurbizniz 08-24-2003 09:34 PM

any compressor will be suitable for one tool...

the cfm and gallons just determine how often it's going to kick on.

Oh and do you use a penetrating oil on the bolts first... because more power aint always what you want...

my buddy spun the crap out of my rear shock bushing trying to loosen a stuck bolt with an impact gun.

If you do use penatrating oil... what kind?
And how long do you let it sit?

If not... then do that first... get "liquid wrech" and HOSE down every exposed area of the bolt etc... let it sit for 5-10 mins... if it doesn't go with some force (feels like it's gunna break) hose it again...

pdiggitydogg 08-24-2003 09:39 PM

oh yeah I use penatrators...I forget which one right now...the can is black though (smells like paint)...oh remembered - "Motorvation" Worked really well in the past on the exhaust and rear suspension before this little trip into pissed-off land.

I usually do several soakings and let it sit for a very long time between each, before the final spray which sits about 10mins...then the wrench goes on.

edit**oh and I plan on getting a rachet and some other things as well (maybe a paint gun so I can repaint the house easier)

i can't see the product, but looks pretty decent. i am doing all my work with a 90psi compressor and a 15 galon tank. it all depends on what kind of impact wrench you wanna use. anyway CFM stands for Cubic Feet/Minute

C's 94 InTeGrA 08-26-2003 10:35 AM

haha that might be good enough. i was usin a 150 sears but it didnt do shit for me when i was doin my suspension. it took 6 days to lower my POS. every bolt was like over torqued i think.. i had to break every bolt on the rear end and then go to the junk yard and buy new control arms

90civiclxryder 08-26-2003 11:57 AM

just use WD-40 on the bolts let it sit for a few min and use a breaker bar-be a man. and get some mechanix gloves to protects your hands

pdiggitydogg 08-26-2003 12:02 PM

^uh...no doesnt work at all...gotta use a penatrator above "donkey piss" on my car most of the time

90civiclxryder 08-26-2003 07:26 PM

ive gotten exhaust bolts off using wd-40 as penetrator and those are one of th4e hardest bolts to get off in my opinion

sc0rch 08-27-2003 01:38 AM

get that 6hp and get you a set of tork sockets so that you dont shread the bolt heads when trying to loosen or tighten them

thats would be a good compressor for painting too.....but you'd also be best to buy a pressure regulator if you were gonna do that....or maybe get one anyway....just incase you dont need full perssure
