My new FMIC

I just bought this FMIC. It measures: 31 x 6 x 2.75 (length includes end tanks) 2 1/2" inlet/outlet. It cost $250 to include S/H. It will go in my 99civic. It will take a few fabrication of piping to mate with my GReddy TD04h-15g.

Looks good man! It seems a little slim.. 6".. But its about enough.

Piping it in wont be too tuff considering the amount of space you have to work with..

damn, that's a long one. are the tmic any good ? i wanna use one of those when i'll turbo the f22:yes:

thermal 06-08-2003 11:06 AM

Yeah, it's not tall which is want I wanted. I intend to retain my bumper and OEM front end at the same time get cooling effect that I want.

The TMIC is nice. But it takes up so much space on the top. That will be an awesome mod for a honda tho.

ebpda9 06-08-2003 11:29 AM

i just like the functional hood scoop, and somebody mods to show it's not stock lol. can we say i have rice flowing thru my veins ? ;)

thermal 06-08-2003 03:43 PM

nah, I wouldnt say that. I think that it is innovative for a honda car....honestly

FMIC = front mount intercooler correct? Now, does this go below and someewhat infront of your radiator or does it replace it? And what exaclty does it do? (..i'm learnding..)

TeriyakiBroccoli 06-08-2003 10:26 PM

cools the charge air coming from the turbo. It goes in front of your radiator.

Grip72 06-09-2003 02:06 AM

cools the air coming FROM the turbo? then where does this COOLED air go? exhaust manifold?

thermal 06-09-2003 07:53 AM

This is my GReddy type31 FMIC:

Basically, when air is compressed, it tends to get hot. The intercooler cools the air before the air gets combusted. The cooler the air, the more dense it is. The denser the air, the better for combustion.

AIR FLOW:
Intake section---> Turbo Compressor---> Intercooler---> Throttle Body---> Intake Manifold---> Cylinders----> ***Combustion occurs***----> Exhaust port----> Exhaust manifold---> Turbo Turbine (to drive the compressor again, to continue the cycle)

EXHAUST SIDE:
***combustion occurs***---> Exhaust gas passes through the exhaust port---> Then to the exhaust manifold---> Spins the Turbo Turbine---> Exhaust gas passes through the downpipe---> Then through the cat-converter---> Finally exits to the open atmosphere via the muffler.

Note: Partial exhaust gas passes through a wastegate upon reaching the wastegate set point. Partial charged air exits through the BOV (Blow Off Valve) during shifting/letting off on the throttle.

I hope that helps Accord17......:)

ya man, that actually helps alot! Thanks dude. Learn something new and useful everyday...good luck with it hey!

cool beans:cool:

Jazn671 06-16-2003 07:57 PM

let me know how that works out... i just sold my gtr core intercooler and was going with something about the size you got... if you could, send me some pics with how that looks with and without the front bumper...

thermal 06-17-2003 09:30 AM

sure man. I'm currently taking measurements. It's actually going to be perfect. I found a nice place to mount it. It will mount the way I've always wanted my intercooler to mount. I will fabricte the piping soon, starting today. Peace....pics on the way.:)

AIEEEEEE

haha.. very nice.

I was watching some video of a boosted hatch on.. I think 15 pounds of boost, and he was having some traction problems even on the highway.... is that still a problem with most fwd vehicles?

thermal 06-17-2003 06:18 PM

Yep. Some people are just awesome drivers tho. You just have to get used to your car. Launch on the right RPM.

thermal 06-25-2003 10:34 PM

The "replacement killer"..... I mean cooler :)

I'm still waiting on the piping.
