pulley

i am seriously considering unorthadox racing pullies for my 91 f22.will the power gain be enouph to compensate for my being pissed off at the underdriving?

You will gain some power from them, but if I remember correctly, the UR set doesn't incorporate a harmonic balancer, which can upset things? (someone verify this?) I have the AEM set, and they are OK, but didn't yield that much power. My lights dim and my fan blows slower at idle, but at speed it is fine.

Do you have I/H/E yet? I'd do that first.

i- weapon r dragon
h- dc sports 4-2-1
e- tanabe dtm

OOOhhhh, the tanabe DTM, that's what I want. How do you like it, and how does it sound ?(sorry for going OT in your topic).

I know the AEM pullies are "safer", but you'll gain more HP with the UR. Let me look up some info on the harmonic balancer issue and i'll get back to you.

dont worry about it, the dtm rocks, sleeper to the hilt, you hear a slow rumble at low rpm's but its badddddd at higher 4k up

Ooh, that's exactly what I want. Thanks for the info. I know someone on the board knows more about UR pulleys too ::yes::

The unorthodox pulleys aren't bad, they are good quality and show good power gains, however they do in most instances eliminate the harmonic balancer, which if your car has high miles I would not do, It can cause premature oil pump failure, along with other things. I would go with the AEM pulleys personally if you have high miles.

what about the possibility of using the aem two puly set and adding the UR third. do you guys think it feasable or worth it again for that matter

94_AcCoRd_EX 12-08-2001 08:24 PM

A question came up on one of the other boards about mixing the two sets and many people advised against it. Sorry, but I can't remember the exact reasons. Plus that would make a very expensive set of pulleys. I'd just get the AEM if you are worried in the least bit.

I heard the same.. no first hand experience..

I think it had something to do with the total ratio not being too compatible.

BlazinCrx 12-09-2001 03:36 AM

I agree I would stick with one or the other, I would still go with the AEM, and plus they come with a belt so it makes your life a little easier

94_AcCoRd_EX 12-09-2001 07:23 PM

Just a note. My belts that came with the AEM kit started recently squeaking. I got them all tightened up, and a week later, they are back at it. I've had the pulleys for a little over a year btw. The guy at the Honda place said that was very common for the AEM pulleys, and many people have had that problem. Not a big deal, but I just thought I'd share. ;)

BlazinCrx 12-10-2001 12:29 AM

It is pretty common. tends to happen when you change the weight and the pulley size on a vechicle
