header??

hey i have a 95 honda ex with just the d series engine in. i have a aem cai and a rear section hayame exhaust system. im debating whether to get a header or not? and if so a ss or ceramic 4-2-1 or 4-1??? Please help!!!

AzCivic 05-29-2003 09:08 PM

dc sports 4-2-1 ceramic.

ceramic vs ss is just a personal preference kinda thing.

pdiggitydogg 05-29-2003 09:11 PM

^agree
but at the same time, you might as well fill in that b-pipe with something a little better...

Netrisk032 05-29-2003 09:15 PM

i heard some where though that if you run the ss with out the factory heat sheild on it that it will bubble the paint above it on the hood. that true?? and can i just by a back pipe or should i just go to a midas or something like that to get a custom one?? and what price range would i be looking at???

sohc_vtec 2NR 05-29-2003 09:17 PM

don't go cheap....

pdiggitydogg 05-29-2003 09:20 PM

custom piping is usually pretty inexpensive...but DO NOT go to midas OR minekie...theyre full of incompetent fools. Go to a real reputable shop and get it.
(Im assuming by "back pipe" you mean axle back section...and you dont want just that...you want full cat-back or dont bother)

Netrisk032 05-29-2003 09:53 PM

yeah i meant from the cat. and back. yeah just dont want the hood to bubble

PREACH IT BROTHA!!!!!

nonovurbizniz 05-30-2003 01:03 AM

I went cheap and am more than satisfied...

I got a chikara tork-step... put it on tonight and it's NICE... not a huge gain but theres obviously less effort into making the same power and a little extra to boot...

I'd recomend this to anyone... I don't think a dc is worth 300+ bucks especially when NO ONE can say it offers any more than 3 hp more than most other headers and in some cases the chikara has tested higher than the dc...

I'd go used dc or chikara... don't get a pacesetter though. I got my chikara for 170 shipped from summit it was here in 2 days...

Mischief(LTS) 05-30-2003 02:08 AM

small bolt ons like that usually will not add a very noticeable increase in torque/horsepower on the stock engine... save the small stuff til after you get a swap. and trust me on this, its the ONLY way to go if you are racing. anything else is sad and slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww :P

ebpda9 05-30-2003 08:42 AM

yeah i heard the chikara is good and i wanted to get one, but then my brother got one and it seemed so cheap and like it could rust in 2-3 ohio winters.

Wallythecat 05-30-2003 09:47 AM

I got one of those Chikara Headers, went to put it on and the bolt holes didn't match the studs... My wife got me a Chikara dipstick (for my birthday) and it doesn't fit with the lower header heat shield in place...

Baaaah!

I did leave the factory header on w/o the heat shield and no problems, yet.

AND.... The thing that really pissed me off is that I got it on backorder from Summit, meaning I had to wait and wait and wait for the damn thing to get here and it didn't fit.

oc civic 05-30-2003 10:46 AM

get nitrous

you sure you ordered the right one???

cuz i got mine in 2days (ordered tues. at my door thurs from summit) and put it in in about 30 mins... no probs except I couldn't get the stock o2 out of the stock mani... so I had to plug it for now.

I got the chikara tork-step header... I like it.

nonovurbizniz 05-30-2003 11:51 PM

oh and YES it does look like CRAP... boiled crap mixed into vomit stew...

and I'm SURE it'd rust if left like that in 1-2 years... but you can buy hightemp ceramic spray paint for like 5 bucks... which is what mine will get after all the shipping paint burns off... which smells REALLY nice.

OPAKRACING 05-31-2003 12:50 AM

Dont' go ceramic, because they can crack on you. Its best to go with a nice ruged steel header, and preferabley from DC.

ive never seen a header crack in the body, ONLY at the weld points.. ALL headers have weld points.. so i dont really think ceramic coated is any more prone to cracking... i think its the quality of the welds

Netrisk032 06-02-2003 02:57 PM

guys know anything about the arospeed header... anygood???

if the rest of there product line is any indication then they probably suck..

Netrisk032 06-02-2003 09:03 PM

oc civic does that mean that arospeed header will suck, that if i think arospeed stuff is crap the header will be crap, or that you havent heard of anyone with a arospeed header on to compare to??

pdiggitydogg 06-02-2003 09:19 PM

arospeed is crap in general...just a step above apc imo
so yeah the header is gonna blow

Netrisk032 06-02-2003 09:31 PM

well im on a tight budget and just just want some reasonable gains with out spending like 400 on a dc sports... any suggestions to that

nonovurbizniz 06-02-2003 09:45 PM

like I said I'm VERY happy with my chikara tork-step... it gave me some decent gains and it's under 200 bucks.

pdiggitydogg 06-02-2003 10:16 PM

dont go powertech (big around here...if you dont know)...i wish i didnt lol

nonovurbizniz 06-02-2003 10:20 PM

chikara is the ONLY budget header I've heard ANYTHING good about... and half say go dc anyway...

Find a used dc... they should be realatively plentifull... lots of d16 kids hopped onto the turbo bandwagon and ditched their dc's or are selling them.

Netrisk032 06-03-2003 02:08 PM

what makes an arospeed header so crappy. i dont understand. pretty much same design as dc.

sohc_vtec 2NR 06-03-2003 02:31 PM

the reason people are sayin' that arospeed is crappy is because several people here have had a bad experience with them....

*edit*
..since we are on the subject on header i think somebody should make a "sticky" just like the exhaust sticky... and anybody here have experience with the kamikaze header? i've read that they gain 4-5 more than the dc header??? can anyone validate that?...so once again...make a "header sticky"...please...;)

quality of construction.

nonovurbizniz 06-03-2003 05:13 PM

I asked about that from the endyne folks because it's all they sell... they said that it is NO good for na... to free flowing... but if your sc'd it's GREAT...

I've also seen somewhere that the chikara won in a header shoot out that included the dc.

sohc_vtec 2NR 06-03-2003 06:25 PM

anybody know where i can find some articles on a header shoot-out?...it'll help me a lot...and i'm sure many others out there...

Netrisk032 06-03-2003 07:52 PM

ill just go with the arospeed i guess what ever im paying wholesale for it. unless the dc or chikara has a good wholesale price ill get it, or maybe greddy but not sure how good they are. but i might just go with a aropseed due to the fact of needing to buy a computer for college in the next year and then ill probably just get a better car such as a 90s 911 turbo or a rsx type-s and build it up once im outta med school.

Netrisk032 06-03-2003 07:53 PM

unless you can tell me of something else that would better to get in that price range.

everyone just told you not to get it.. why even bother asking the question if you are not going to listen... get it .. when it breaks ill point and laugh

so either a 60-100k used car or a 20k new car????

wtf are you talking about... either a SUPER car or a spiced up commuter car... they aren't exactly in the same price range...

I would HIGHLY recomend the chikara.. it's under 200 brand new retail... and it's fine. it's a little ugly but.. if you're that concerned paint it.

don't mean to be rude with the 911 comment but that threw me for a loop.

Netrisk032 06-05-2003 02:42 PM

yo nonovurbizniz just fo you info i can afford that for one reason when im outta school because im going to be a doctor. and with a starting salary of a whopping 250K + a year i can definiately fit it in my budget.

Netrisk032 06-05-2003 02:43 PM

and if i got the rsx type s. hardcore tuning would be envolved.

RavingCivic 06-07-2003 12:01 AM

exactly what kind of a DR starts off at 250k a year?
i think someone lied to u son!  ;)

nonovurbizniz 06-07-2003 11:58 PM

yeah that's SOME starting sallary... I though usually dr's graduate then INTERN somewhere for a YEAR at LEAST working like 90+hr weeks and prescribing themselves uppers so they can keep pace only to burn themselves out on helping people so they're all bitter.. then when they're finally done sucking senior doctors' nuts they get a crappy position paying DIOCK... then they quit start a private practice and soon realize the all encompassing B.S. that is envolved with running their own business...

jfwy sortof..

My point was that you are stuck between a car that cost 20k brand new... and a car that cost 160k USED.... it's just an odd couple of cars to be confused between...

and even if you put 150k into the acura or any other car it won't be NEAR what a stock c4 is.

Netrisk032 06-08-2003 10:05 PM

um a radiation oncologist.... and give me a call when you need me because you'll def. screw something up with all that crack your smokin.

Netrisk032 06-08-2003 10:07 PM

yo got my header on but the connection of the header and the cat. still has a leak what should i do. the stock system didnt have a gasket between there so should i get an flange gasket or what???
