spoogenet 05-05-2003 11:56 AM

One acronym, DLP.

How much for that TV?

SolPol 05-05-2003 11:58 AM

DLP?

How much? Nothin' yet. Year same as cash rules. It rules.

pdiggitydogg 05-05-2003 12:06 PM

big tv's are fun...my dad has one about that size...HDTV is great...

SolPol 05-05-2003 12:29 PM

Yeah, this is HDTV upgradeable, gotta call DirecTV about the new satellite.

Seriously, what is DLP?

pdiggitydogg 05-05-2003 12:33 PM

this is dlp

SolPol 05-05-2003 12:36 PM

Thanks.

Is that built into TVs? Or you plug something in? Or I should've gotten that?

Sorry, I am slow today.

pdiggitydogg 05-05-2003 12:47 PM

comes in the tv

SolPol 05-05-2003 12:49 PM

I wonder if I have it?

pdiggitydogg 05-05-2003 12:55 PM

check the manual index

SolPol 05-05-2003 12:57 PM

Yup, gotta wait until I get home though. I am looking online right now instead for now.

pdiggitydogg 05-05-2003 12:59 PM

i bet crutchfield has that info

SolPol 05-05-2003 01:00 PM

I am at hitachi.com looking. Don't see anything about DLP. Yet.

SolPol 05-05-2003 01:06 PM

Nah, no DLP. They have a whole different section for those and there's only one on the list. And it's 55". Booo!

ebpda9 05-05-2003 02:51 PM

is that a 13" ? ;)

SolPol 05-05-2003 03:22 PM

Nah, 9"

I'm thinking of just putting it on the kitchen counter ;)

msvtec14 05-06-2003 11:23 AM

There's a TV in my kitchen. It pisses me off sometimes to be honest with you. I will get home and on the occasion, I will cook something really good and I just want to sit there and eat after working all day. And then my mom or brother will come home and turn the TV on and it sucks. Any Sol, your new TV is hot!

SolPol 05-06-2003 11:57 AM

Thanks MS. There's a 9" in my mom's kitchen too. That's where I got the thought from. It's cool to have there mostly, but you're right, sometimes it sucks

msvtec14 05-06-2003 12:08 PM

Yeah, it's cool to have it there when you're cooking or washing dishes but not when you want to just sit there in silence or read or something. They all have their own TV's in their parts of the house. They should just go there.

SolPol 05-06-2003 12:10 PM

Ah yes, but the food is by that one. It can be a problem. I don't have that in my house now, just many other distractions.

pdiggitydogg 05-06-2003 01:59 PM

I never understood the idea of tv's in the kitchen...I mean youre there to cook and to eat...if you want to watch tv go into another room...sheesh...talk about tv dependant

msvtec14 05-06-2003 02:58 PM

I dunno. If I am in the kitchen cooking, it's more likely that I will have music on or something. I feel more inclined to do stuff when there's music on -vs- some stupid show on tv. I really do not like tv as there is not much that I can relate to on it. I have friends that waitress/bartend nights and stuff and all they do all day is watch tv and I do not now how they can do it. Movies are straight though.

spoogenet 05-06-2003 03:51 PM

Ok, I'll try it the other way....how much is the purchase price of the TV independent of when you start paying for it? Knowing it's not DLP probably puts you around the 2-4k price range.....I would guess. Does it have an RGB projector, LCD projector?

I think the definition of DLP has been covered by the website. But there's 2 ways to use a DLP, one is in a rear projection TV similar to what you have, the other is in a front projection setup similar to a cinema.

A buddy of mine has a Sharp 9000 with a 100" diagonal screen.....and it's not even the biggest screen the projector supports. Now that's HT.

SolPol 05-07-2003 10:40 AM

Purchase price was $2600 because the salesman screwed up. Yay for me.

spoogenet 05-07-2003 04:27 PM

Nice.

How'd he screw up?

Now all you need is a THX Ultra-2 certified setup and you're in business. :)

Zybach 05-07-2003 05:30 PM

You know what would be cool? If you put the TV against the window. THat way you can watch TV will mowing the grass.

SolPol 05-08-2003 12:21 PM

I would have to mow the grass first

The salesman screwed up by quoting me the wrong price on the TV. He thought he had an Hitachi that was slightly lower than the one on the floor and quoted me the price. As he's ringing me up, he realizes he quoted me a Toshiba lower model instead. Had me get up and check out the Toshiba (still 65") but I said I like the Hitachi better.

He then said it was my lucky day.

And it was.
