These rims - too good to be true??!?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=2411485 091

I can get them for 565 shipped to my house without the tires. They are 17's, but not that heavy, and look decent. Why are they this cheap? Is there something i'm missing? I havne't seen a deal this good in a long time.

Also, what is the best tire to get (i was thinking the yokohama parada spec 2) for both dry and wet traction.

pdiggitydogg 04-21-2003 09:48 PM

speedandstyle.com usually has good deals like that too

but the main reason that theyre so cheap is because...velox rims are cheap.

Tires- yokos are good (a buddy of mine has em)
You should look at all qualities of a tire, wet/dry traction, wear, noise, stickiness, etc. I think www.tires.com has charts like that.

EDIT**by cheap I meant inexpensive, not necessarily poor quality...sorry

Yep, Velox wheels are pretty inexpensive and thats a good price for 17's. For tires, I like Falken Azenis.

wheresmylicense 04-21-2003 10:44 PM

i like the ziex tires...

Wabster 04-21-2003 11:10 PM

So you don't think they will bend easily or something like that.

pdiggitydogg 04-21-2003 11:29 PM

well...they are pretty light but the spoke style seems like its designed well enough to withstand some pothole-ing

(I hate the center cap though...I keep wanting to say bad things about the wheel because of it...but its an alright wheel...)

I'm too lazy to start my own topic, so I'll just add on some things here.

I don't have the money for them right now, but when the time comes I dunno what size wheel n stuff I should get. I mean, I live around some shitty roads. :paranoid:

pdiggitydogg 04-22-2003 12:00 PM

IMHO 17" is too big...and 15" are too small...meaning 16" is just right

nonovurbizniz 04-22-2003 01:32 PM

I have 15" konigs on my car and THEY BEND... I hit a pothole (more like a whole to the center of the earth) and it bent not just the rim but the spokes so I can barely fit a socket in over the lug...

DO NOT GET 17" lightweight wheels unless you intend on driving 10 mi/hr around anyplace that has ANY potholes.

I didn't even hit the pothole that hard... I've hit stuff MUCH harder than that on 2 other sets of wheels that didn't bend them at all.

BE CAREFULL... I'm already in the market for another wheel..

Also the 15's don't look too small for some reason... I hated the last set of 15's I had on it which I used to LOVE on my old car but they looked too small on the civic... these look great..

And I'd recomend looking on tirerack.com for tires... sort by price.. I got pirelli p6000's on clearance for a hair over 20 bucks a piece.

maikoshi 04-22-2003 02:37 PM

Yeah, I thought that 16s would be good. I already creep along and drive mega slow over/around shitty roads.. especially since they just started re-doing lots of the roads here. They're just worse now! But thanks :)

as to the original topic, i had a set of velox vx-8's (18's) with nitto 555 extreme tires. the wheels seemed to have an addiction to scratching and also there was a little bend in it from a pot hole. i don't know the weight of the vx-6 17's but the ones i had were heavy as hell. as for the tires, i highly recommend them, they gave nice traction.

Wabster 04-22-2003 10:07 PM

Hmm.. everything sounds too complicated. Steel rims it is.

ebpda9 04-22-2003 10:21 PM

just find some 17" hubcaps and fit them over your wheels  ;)

maikoshi 04-23-2003 12:03 AM
