headlamp code dealy....
does anyone know what it is on a honda civic (97 ex)... for example, i know one is h4...
|
Since 92.. they're on H4..
|
^ mines a 93 and it's a 9003
|
^ yours is a 93 and you say its 9003?!
Ok, fine.. We dont use that code anymore.. Nowadays 9003 is referred to as H4. Just in case there's anymore confusion.. Some people may also call it HB2. Like I said, when shopping for 92+ civic bulbs, look for H4. |
are you sure its not called 9003 or whatever..9000 sumthin...?
i recently bought new bulbs and they were 9004's |
OK look here's how it IS.
MOST cars use 9004's 92-95 civic's use 9003's 9003 and h4's both fit in the same slot. HOWEVER... h4's are higher current and CAN cause a fire, melting of wires, or blown fuses in a car that's supposed to have 9003. they make a kit specifically for my gen civic to convert to h4. h4 and 9003 ARE different.. and 92-95 do take 9003's. after that I believe they went to h4's but I don't KNOW. |
9003 are H4
edit** ok let me get a little more technical...dont wanna give the wrong message 9003 are the older style and they use more wattage to run where as the H4 is a redesigned model of the style/fitment...they run better but its the same plug style thats it...basically... you can buy either 9003 or H4 |
I don't know... I'm not gunna start a fight over it .... because I think they may have changed the ratings of the h4 bulb...
A friend of mine put h4's in his car and it started a fire... there was too much draw created by them for his stock wires... it melted them and they burned... As I look around now they seem to be merged... some companies sell a h4/9003 bulb but some still sell 9003 seperately (and more expensive) than there h4's. I KNOW painless used to make a kit to re-wire them to use h4's on your stock headlights. I could be wrong but I don't know... they used to be different I'm sure.... |
was your friend using a high wattage bulb? Because that would definately start a fire.
This is just info that I found online...Im no light expert...so its possible that we're both right...I dont know... I just want to restate what was said before and that you should Use H4's on your 97 Civic |
