spark plugs

i need to change my spark plugs ....which ones do u guys prefer? wat are some good brands??

nonovurbizniz 03-26-2003 01:41 AM

NGK are stock and considered to be the best by most honda dorks...

bosch platinum are good but don't have the spark capabilities of an all copper plug however they last WAY longer... don't get the plus 4's because as far as I have experienced they have too many paths for the spark to take and hence they do not spark well causing fouling and early replacement... if you have some sort of aftermarket ignition (msd) maybe you can produce enough spark but the stock honda system won't work well with them.

Champion is an oldy and cheapy but the plugs work well. they just need to be replaced much more often.

Your best bet is to stay with ngk.

NGK or Champion.

drumboy69 03-26-2003 08:25 AM

Hey dude. I am from Columbus, too. I also heard that NGK plugs are best for Honda engines. For your car, if you don't have too many mods (nitrous, turbo, etc.) copper ones are best. Stay away from Bosh ones. I had them in for a few months and they didn't work well. If you get NGKs from a dealer they already come pregapped, so all you have to do is put them in. That's only, if you didn't know that already...

drumboy........where in columbus?

drumboy69 03-27-2003 08:57 AM

near east side/downtown area...

JDMB16 03-27-2003 11:22 AM

NGK man, all the way

Whtehnda93DXSdn 03-27-2003 11:48 AM

NGK is a good choice to go with...If you go w/ turbo or nitrous then look to the iridum plugs...

Hope this might help...

Civic98 03-28-2003 12:41 AM

how long do NGK's usually last?

njm92383 03-28-2003 12:46 AM

anyone know what the gap is supposed to be on a 6th gen ex?

ebpda9 03-28-2003 01:23 AM

it should be in your owner's manual

JDMB16 03-28-2003 07:29 AM

it will already be pre gapped to your specs if you go to the auto parts store and tell them what car you have

yeah that's true but i'd really check them. i got once a set of ngk plugs all with different gaps, but they were under specs.

drumboy69 03-28-2003 08:38 AM

if you get ngk's honda manual says to replace them every 30,000 miles. i buy mine from hugh white honda and they are like $15 for a set...

ebpda9 03-28-2003 08:46 AM

around here you can get the ngk v-power for under $8

in that case, you need to go to a competent auto parts store that doesn't pull the product with the wrong number on it for your particular vehicle.

pdiggitydogg 03-28-2003 01:08 PM

last ones I bought were champion copper plugs and in the checkout they had a bunch of spacers...so I bought one for 5cents and gapped em all myself to the right spacing

no the number was right. i checked it with the number in my haynes manual (cause i don't have the owners manual) and from 4 spark plugs i had 4 different gaps

Civic98 03-30-2003 02:47 PM

okay i just went to ADVANCE AUTO PARTS and AUTOZONE right now .....and advance told me the price for NGK each-$9.89 and Autozone told me NGK each for $1.29....and the v-power for for $1.99 a piece from autozone...........i'm a lil lost...

drumboy69 03-30-2003 05:06 PM

hey dude, go to the NGK website,

http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/apps/

and figure out exactly which plug to get. then just buy the cheaper one.

Civic98 03-30-2003 09:10 PM

1badcivic 03-31-2003 02:25 AM

well the thread is universal now from what i've seen, but also some other factors are involved in a plug to be good for a certain car: gap, heat range

Civic98 03-31-2003 08:48 PM

well anyways...how much do spark plug wires cost?? NGK's?
