Engine Swaps
Ok Im wondering....Where does big companies get the b16, b18s, h22s, etc engine from??
I mean...these engines DID once came from a car right? If so..why was it taking out in the first place? Does honda sell these engine to companys? If so..can we buy these engine directly from honda? |
Most of them come out of cars that are wrecked, etc. Or if they're from Japan, they come out of cars after a certain mileage. Companies can get engines from Honda, but those are expensive crate motors, not the ones you see sold for 2-3k.

If the engine came out from wrecked cars....then isnt that kinda risky? Im new to do this and Im thinking if it did..wouldnt the engine be damaged a little?

before they sell every engine they check for compression, cracks and shit |
yup, so its relatively safe. make sure to buy from a dealer that has some reputable feedback.

Everyone on this board says Osaka...where on every other site they say that it sucks...I still say give the underdog a chance though jdmpower is one that i recently found...anyone know about it?
|
never heard of jdmpowder  . anyway i hope some of my deals will go thru and carry jdm engines too
|
go to hmotors they r a little high but they have good quility motors. i know of about 3or 4 people in or around columbus that have gotten motors from there. all good
|
do not get motor from osaka, i have heard some horror stories recently. i'd go with www.hmotorsonline.com or import auto salvage (don't know the website). you might pay a little more, but you get what you pay for.
|
try a local shop first, though. this way if your engine doesnt come in, you can go in personally and figure out whats up.
You dont necessarily need to buy an engine from an importer though. Plenty of civics and integras have been laying around in junkyards. 90-93 integras have bseries engines that are perfect for an ls/vtec conversion, or just great for rebuilding and dropping into your civic or whatever. you can find sohc vtecs every now and then, but anything other than that and it has already been stripped. |

Why are they taken out after a certain milage????? |
thats supposedly the rule over there, after a car has reached its mileage limit, it has to be dumped for a newer one. I remember somebody saying that they have tough smog laws or something. bascially they only want efficient cars on the road. somebody correct me?

ic ic

yea it has something to do with japanese tax laws favoring new cars to older ones so they tend to junk perfectly good used cars to save $$$ (im pretty sure?)
|
huh? tell me more. . . .
