Del Sol Swap

Ok, say i've got myself a V-tec Del Sol, i'm not quite satisfied with the D16Z SOHC motor, so I consider a swap to be neccessary both for originality and more power. I'm considering a 180hp B18C1 Integra (GSR?) motor. (correct me if thats not the correct engine code) Would this be a good engine selection for heavy tuning, turbocharging, and modification? I'd like to hear any and all suggestions, approvals, etc. T.I.A.

the b18c1 is the usdm version of the gsr motor. imo, this motor is a very strong base to start from. more torque than a b16, and quicker than an ls. the b18c1 is a good motor for both all-motor and turbo.

fyi--the del sol vtec has a b16, you probably got an si.

the GS-R is great to turbo... But if you wanna make ungodly power on a budget look into the LS motor... LS/Turbo are known for making big power. Just as good as the GS-R, just the gs-r has vtec.
I am a proud owner of a LS and cant wait till its boosted :)

good for more power? yes. Good for originality? nope. The B18C1 is 170 hp not 180, the B18C which is JDM is 180 hp and yes it comes from the GSR. It's a great motor no doubt about it. The only thing screwy is the intake manifold which isn't of good design. Personally, I like a second gen B16...NO, I'm not partial, it just seems better for bang for buck. With a second gen B16 you get 170 hp, same as the B18C1 with a little less tq but it costs on avg $800 less. If you're trying to stick with N/A (naturally aspirated) then go with the B16 or B18C...not saying that they can't be turbocharged, it's just that if I was going to turbocharge a Honda motor, it would be the B18B (integra LS motor) due to it's relatively low CR compared to the B18C1

yea i would get the LS engine to turbo it...lower compression..

Reccomend the b16a2 or GSR motor for your Del Sol. HUGE PRICE DIFFERENCE. For the B16A2 JDM we sell at $2100 and the GSR at $3100. Only 10 HP difference so I would go with B16A2 and will go in without much difficulty as it was meant for your year Del Sol. Much power!! Check us out at www.streetstyleracing.com for the info.

^^^ like I just said in the other thread, don't listen to this guy!! First off, there is no JDM B16A2, SSR. There is a first gen B16A - 160 hp, cable tranny and there is a second gen B16A - 170 hp, hydro tranny. The B16A2 is USDM ONLY and comes in ONLY the 99-00 Civic SI. This guy is just trying to SPAM the site and make money, don't listen to him, any B series motor is just as easy as the next to put in your car.

If you wanna go turbo then take the money you would waste on a swap and have the D16Z6 rebuilt with all new/aftermarket internals and a resleeve(maybe bored out a little). Even without boost you'll have more torque than a B16 and almost as much HP.

NOW if you wanna go N/A then get a B18c5.

JDMB16 04-15-2003 09:19 AM

B18C5 is a waste of money, I can get more HP than it puts out for less money

AzCivic 04-15-2003 11:16 PM

Your right, an H22 would be the best all motor option.

JDMB16 04-16-2003 07:36 AM

not really, that's a pretty difficult swap and shops will charge a pretty penny for it unlike any of the B series motor which go in relatively easy

AzCivic 04-16-2003 11:23 PM

thats why you do it yourself:yes:
