Strut bar/tie bar questions..plz
Ok i know a strut bar goes under the hood across the top and hooks ontop of your shock mounts pretty much.. (ya'll know what i mean) but what and where do these go?
Rear upper tie bar (?) Rear lower tie bar (?)...i'm not 100% sure on the names..so help me out please..thanks |

Basically they link your rear shocks together to promote the same chassis rigidity as a regular strut tower bar. Honestly, unless you're into some serious SCCA or NASA type racing shit they're of little value. They do their job, but it's hard to notice unless you really flog the car in the corners. This is, of course, from my experience with domestic cars...dunno about imports.

I agree with GT.. Tie bars arent really needed for light driving, if you want better handling stick to a nice rear sway bar (If you dont have one, or you current one is very thin.) It will dramatically improve your handling.

i hardly noticed my rear upper tie bar untill i would throw my car into turns much much faster and tighter than i should have. the front is a much more noticable gain, and unless you are really going to autox or road race, its not worth it

Like Racing Rice said, stick with a fatter sway bar. A bigger sway bar with firm bushings will outdo a tie bar anyday provided you don't go too big. A sway bar's job is to prevent body roll by way of suspension geometry but one that's too big will prevent proper suspension travel. Good luck.
