which swap
I posted this in the engine forum but didnt get a very helpful responce so im trying here (sorry double post is bad i know)
But im looking to do a swap this summer. the engine plus tranny and i dont know waht i should get. I seriously doubt i will ever turbo the car but i would make more minor engine mods if needed after the swap. Also i dont want to spend an exorbant i was hoping around 3000 to 3500 total. What engine would you recomend and why. What are its benefits and weaknesses. What are its stats (for lack of a better word im tired as hell) Thanks for the help everyone im just trying to start my research early. -ryan |
Could do a B16a1 at 160hp or a B18c1 at 170hp.

i would say b18c, you can usually find a complete swap for under 3k, you get more torque b/c of the extra displacement. or you could do a b18c block w/ b16 head---poor man's type r.

what do you want the car to do? daily driver? track only?

no youre obd2...get the b16a2 not the a1 (unless you wanna spend an extra $150 for a harness converter from skunk2 (or make your own)) I say go with the b16a2 unless you go all out and get the b18c1...but for the money...I say the b16 is the better buy |
daily driver

Check that out then if you don't think there isn't one http://www.osakajdmmotors.com/honda/b16a1/index.html |
If I were you I'd plan on spending about $4500 when its all done with.

sigh, I go through this time and time again man and you guys always try to prove me wrong with links when I'm right. That site right there is WRONG!! No such thing as the B16A1..all motors that have a number behind them are USDM not JDM and the only USDM B16's are the B16A3 from the 94-97 Del Sol DOHC VTEC and the B16A2 from the 99-00 Civic SI. Sites ALWAYS get confused and put a number behind the JDM B16's. The motor you and that site are referring to is the 1st Gen B16A, that's why they put the 1 behind it, and they're wrong. People also get confused with the Second Gen B16A and put a 2 behind it when it's not actually the engine code, the code is still B16A if you get what I'm saying...just a different generation. To help you better understand what I'm saying, I'll give you some examples of how USDM and JDM motors are coded. USDM GSR motor code = B18C1 JDM GSR motor code = B18C USDM Prelude motor code = H22A4 JDM Prelude motor code = H22A USDM Integra motor code = B18B1 JDM Teg motor code = B18B catch my drift?? Believe me...I'm right ;) |
That makes sense....huh. I've never heard of that
|
wait to set em straight JDMB16.... or wutevr...
|
i think the sites just put the number behind the engine code just to let everyone know which gen it is, that way when you see b16a1, although it doesn't exist, you know they are talking about the 1st gen w/ cable tranny

This is pretty much what they meant to do. For clerity they should have done b16a gen1. but yeah, JDMB16 OwNz you all now. |
