Front Axle Boots

i know alot of my friends with older civ's have this problem...the cracking and eventual decintagration(sp) of their axle boots.

i was getting my tires rotated and oil changed at my buddies garage when we noticed my axle boots are beginning to crack (not all the way through, just on the surface of the rubber).

i tried to solve the situation temporarily (strapped for cash) by covering the cracks with a silicon agent but i dont know how long this will last. does anyone know where and for how much i can get a set of new axle boots for my car, and is it hard to replace them?

hmm, the boots are gonna run you 20 a piece, and you have 4 boots. that will be like 80, and for 100 you could get both axles with 25% the headache. don't get speedy boots

i only need boots for the front wheels, a guy at allied told me that i could do it myself, id just have to be able to take the wheel assembly off the axle, and replace the boot...i dunno, i think ill buy the boots and have them installed at my friend's shop for a milkshake &burger or somethin...thats not something i feel confident about screwing around with in my garage, though, ill watch and maybe take some pics also so you guys will know what im talking about and be able to do it on your own later (the guy at allied said its a frequent problem with all year hondas 2000 and older)

Speedy boots are evil. And around here, we can't buy just the boots and strap things. Nobody (autozone, napa, advance auto, etc.) has them. What I did was just buy a whole new halfshaft ($80), which had the boots already on there correctly. saves hassle, for me anyway.

does anyone know if i could rip the front axle off a 95 civic LX and swap it with mine?...my buddy is scrapping his totalled Civ, and i figured this would solve my axle boot problems......

isnt 95 the last year for that gen?, it wouldn't be a direct swap, but when it comes to half shafts and things I wouldn't be surprised. If he's totalling his car get as much crap off of it as possible.

thats what im trying, ill ask him for some compatablilities, he knows alot about civics

ebpda9 02-04-2003 09:03 AM

how come you got a diesel civic ?

Azkikr111 02-04-2003 03:27 PM

ill take a picture once my camera gets fixed (in the mail right now) and ill show you

Azkikr111 02-04-2003 10:22 PM

well, talked to my buddy, the 95 civic axles are compatable...just one problem, one of his boots (out of the 4) are already cracked, so forget that, im just gunna get a whole new axle (labor costs the same) just figure ill do the whole axle swap and save the trouble of replacing all the boots individually.....my buddy said he'd do it for me on his lift at work and try and bargain a deal with his boss to get it done cheaper too

thats a great deal, cause for the rest of us poor civilians with no hook up get charged out the ass.
