What do you want to do when you grow up?

I'm sitting here pondering things liek I do when I'm bored and I stumbled across a question.

"If the world were perfect, what would my ideal job be?"

I have yet to come up with an answer. I've sat here thinking about what I would like to do on a daily basis. Something I wouldn't dread waking up for in the morning. I can't think of anything.

Currently I'm a Sysadmin (computer nerd).

So I'm posting this to see what you guys/gals come up with. Maybe you guys can give me some pointers. I know I'm lost.

Im planning on getting an MBA and Masters in Economics and Finance in college, and hope to be an economist of sorts... I don't want to be a stock broker, but then again I don't wanna work for the Federal Reserve because they dont pay well, so right now Im thinking start off as economist for some medium-sized company and work my way through the ranks towards CEO...

Well...i don't really know right now...but i'm going to wyotech in 2005, and either take the automotive core class or the collision and refinishing core class...
and i'll probably take their chassis fabrication class also...
www.wyotech.com for anyone who wants the link...I hope this is right for me...because i really want to do it...

I could go one of three possible directions and be happy.

1- run my own small business
2- test drive cars (who wouldn't want to do that?)
3- become a fully sponsored cyclist (speaking of which  hehe)

Wren57 01-30-2003 07:37 PM

in an ideal world I would tune and race pro-stock drag cars all day, and road-course race all night... yes, at night:yes:

ChrisCantSkate 01-30-2003 07:38 PM

yah I'm not really sure what I wanna be when I grow up. I'm taking classes to get a BA in Applied Geography...and I think I'd enjoy doing that the rest of my life...but in all actuality, I think I'd rather be a go-go dancer in a Las Vegas club or own my own themed restaurant or club.

ifeldwn02 01-30-2003 10:23 PM

not sure what i want to do but thats a day to dat thing anyway

i would like to be one of those azzholes who just sits in an office for 3 hours gets high paid and gets to work on their car all the time

Interesting responses.

I kinda feel like the guy in Office Space. I mean I can't think of anything I'd do. I guess I'd do nothing (aside from 2 chicks at once ;)). Dunno.

I'm taking my MCSE & MCSA tests in March (more nerd shit). Those should net me more money at a different company. I hate switching companies though. I'm just getting comfortable.

I'd like to get a degree is Computer Science, but I HATE school. Maybe I'll try that University of Phoenix (online stuff).

MCSE & MCSA is like just another certificate these days. Yeah it'll get you in the door at more then min wage, but unless you know your shit and put your time in, then it's not worth jack. We have someone at work who just graduated from some tech college, he paid like over 35 grand for a 3 year corse, has like 4 certs to hsi name, and knows his shit. Yet he's working technical support at 13 bucks an hour just because the market sucks ass now days.

I wanted to get into computers, took the classes, fished the market, the lake is fishless unless you know someone. So hard to get into the right company.

Lately I've been working on my own business, hopefully things will pan out and we (partners and I) will being going public sometime soon. I find, pull, and ebay car parts for extra cash.

That's the truth. I try to get to know as many people in my field as I can. Networking (not computers) is the best way to get somewhere. A friend of mine is just about to start working at Lexis-Nexis (huge company). So that'll make 2 people I know there. I may try for them once I figure out what I want to do.

I'm in the computer field because its what I know how to do. And I'm pretty good at it. I haven't explored other areas.
