'95 Civic EX Motor Swap
I have a '95 Civic with a D16z6 motor that i wanna swap out what motor is the least amount of modifications yet give me a good upgrade in HP and Torque? I am expecting to swap tranny, motor, ecu, maybe some wiring, and maybe axles and shift linkage. I am new to the swapping idea yet am rdy to do a big upgrade. I have the tools and equipment to do it i just wanna be prepared. Thanks for the input.

Most B16/B18 series swaps are probably the easiest do a search for 5th Gen swap, youll find all kinds of info.

swap
should it be a b16a2 or what? and if it is a b18 what series ? or does it matter for either one just as long as it came out of the same generation as my '95 civic. will a 94-97 integra b series work. or a '99-'00 civic si work? i am just narrowing my options. thanks for your help so far.

Yes, the B16A2 with OBD-I. OBD-II will be for the 6th Gen models (99-00 SI).
You would probably want to look for a B18C1/C5 (C5 if you dont mind spending some money), or B18B (great for Turbo on stock internals) just make sure you get the OBD-I and you should be okay. |
i assume that the OBD-1 is to do with the ECU, but could you tell me exactly what i am looking for there. which motor out of the ones you are talking to me about are DOHC VTec motors? if i can i would like to keep the budget between $1000 and $1500 with everything i mean everything i will need to do the swap if that is possible. any links to sites that sell this stuff would help. i have a few however i want more options than just a couple. are junk yards a good source at all or should i get one from a site that sells only motor swap products that are used or new?

for 1500 you will not be able to get a practical motor swap unless you get really lucky. junkyards are ok if you can find what you need b/c you can see the odometer and start the car. a b16a2 will be the closest to your budget.
www.osakajdm.com --i think thats right-i heard good and bad www.hmotorsonline.com www.importsalvageauto.com--heard nothing but good but you pay for what you get just make sure to research the company first b/c it is a big investment |
Is a b16a2 what is in the 99-00 civic Si ' s ? if not what do they come in?
|
You could probably get a B18b1 out of the Integra LS for about the price you wanna spend, but the problem is that it's non-vtec. Of course you could do the LS/VTEC swap for relatively cheap and have a vtec B series motor that is great for turbocharging.
|
u kould get a b18c for a lil more than the b16a2 and in the end, av more power to build on. its better for turbo and wut-not. more HP and torque to start out with to0.

the B16A2 was NEVER OBD-I, the B16A2 was found only in the 99-00 Civic SI and is OBD-II. You are thinking of the second gen B16A which is a JDM motor ONLY that is found in the 92-95 Civic SI-R. Also, you say he should go for the B18C1, which I don't agree with since the second gen B16A has the same amount of HP but a little less torque for about $800 less, but usually more. The B18C5 is overpriced also. Also, the B18B isn't used for primarily turbo applications due to it's internals, it's due to it's low compression ratio. Why do you say he should get OBD-I? You can buy a newer motor with less miles and is OBD-II and buy a wiring harness adapter to convert it to OBD-I, of course you'll have to purchase and OBD-I ECU or trade the OBD-II one for an OBD-I ECU. |

yes, OBD-II has something to due with the ECU. It is the emissions control basically. OBD-I vehicles have an O2 sensor in the exhaust manifold and OBD-II have an O2 sensor in the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter. ALL B series motors are DOHC VTEC not Vtec. You won't be able to do a swap with that little of money, so unless you're willing to spend more, hang it up. Here are some sites you can visit for motors etc. www.osakajdmmotors.com www.hmotorsonline.com www.importautosalvage.com www.sohfast.com www.hasport.com www.nippon-motors.com or you can visit my site and this sticky for more help http://www.garagetuners.com/showthre...=&threadid=835 you can figure out who I am ;) |

Your kinda right, my bad.. I got the Del Sol engines mixed up. In 96-97 the Del Sols had the B16A2 too, 94-95 They were B16A1. I was just saying he should get ODB-I since he wouldnt have to mess with wiring.. Either way will work fine though. |

Nope, the B16A2 was found in ONLY the 99-00 Civic SI and there is no such thing as a B16A1. The motor you are referring to is the B16A3 and is found in the 94-97 Del Sol DOHC VTEC. |

:D Hell yeah thats what I meant.. The B16A1 is JDM, right.. |
 you're cool dude, most people get mad at me and say I don't know what I'm talking about when I correct them.
|
oh, there isn't a such thing as a B16A1 and no JDM motor codes have numbers behind them. There are JDM B16A's though. There is a 1st gen B16A which is 160 hp, cable transmission and found in both the 89-91 Civic Si-R and CRX Si-R, and there is the second gen B16A which is 170 hp, hydraulic transmission and found in both the 92-95 Civic Si-R and 92-97 CRX DelSol SiR

I dont get mad.. I just research and see if Im wrong.. I cant keep track of all these damn B-series motors.. Especially when you start talking about JDM vs. USDM.. Im glad you set me straight.. I need that sometimes.. :D  I was just wondering because I found these.. 4G '89-'92 CRX 1.6/Vti Europe EE B16A1 1595 10.2:1 158hp@7600RPM/111lb-ft@7000 4G '90-'92 CRX SiR Japan EF B16A1 1595 10.4:1 160hp@7800RPM/111lb-ft@7000 4G '90-'91 Civic SiR Japan EF B16A1 1595 10.4:1 168hp@7800RPM/111lb-ft@7000 4G '89-'92 Civic1.6i/VTi Europe EE/ED B16A1 1595 10.2:1 158hp@7600RPM/111lb-ft@7000 And then there are the B16As also.. I dunno.. Im just trying to figure this out.;) |
where did you find those? Wherever you got them from, they are wrong, there are no numbers behind JDM motor's codes and Europe gets the same motors that people in Japan get. I'll give you some examples.
USDM Integra GSR - B18C1 JDM Integra GSR - B18C USDM Civic SI - B16A2 USDM Del Sol DOHC VTEC - B16A3 JDM Civic Si-R - B16A JDM Del Sol DOHC VTEC - B16A USDM Prelude Type-SH - H22A4 JDM Prelude Type-S - H22A |
I got them from here. They very well could be wrong.
http://www.civicland.com/swap.php Ive seen it many other places too, thats whats got me messed up. So I guess its actually just a B16A and people like adding the 1 at the end to keep them from confusing themselves.. :D |
pretty much dude, you can find LOTS of innacurate info on boards. These people that made that are confused and put a 1 on the end of the engine code because it is the 1st gen B16A. I have the second gen B16A in my car, most people get confused with that too and say it's a B16A2 which it's not ;)
|
the 96-97 del sol vtecs have the b16a2's the earlier models had the b16a3. i am almost positive the 96-97 was b16a2
