cat-back

werd, all!

i'm new to the boards, and i had a question for everyone.

what kinda cat-backs are you guys runnin? do you like em? were they affordable?

i've heard rs*r is one of the best you can get, but they're kinda hard to find. what else is out there?

TeriyakiBroccoli 01-26-2003 02:03 AM

Not sure, but you would not want to get a "no name" brand on ebay.

Go to a performance shop near you, and talk to the reps there.

got a used 5 zigen fireball. deep sound. not ricey. $215 1 year used on ebay. works great and sounds great, and gives a bit more torque.

I don't have a name brand one, I had a shop in town weld on all new piping with a custom muffler.

Tanabe Racing Medallion. I like it a lot...very deep

TeriyakiBroccoli 01-26-2003 04:00 AM

Well if you can get a good shop to mandrel bend pipes for you with quality results, then thats fine too. I would go with the larger companies such as a'pexi because they have done R&D and have designed the best possible system to get as much fart gas out of your system asap.

Yeah I like the Apexi too. Great sound for a decent price.

pdiggitydogg 01-26-2003 11:16 AM

Thermal R&D I love it

I also have a catback tanabe for $100 if you care (see below)

RU_Teg 01-26-2003 11:19 AM

how does it sound?...is it a deep or raspy sound?...did you feel any power gain after it was on?

wheresmylicense 01-26-2003 03:10 PM

does anyone have any experience with the rs*r or the neuspeed?

iRACEmyCTR 01-26-2003 03:45 PM

no because they arent good. do yourself a favor and buy apex'i the first time and you wont have to worry about it ever.

It's very deep, the combination of the intake and exhaust after 7k RPMs is amazing....and yes, I felt some power gain when I got it. At first I thought I had a lot of power gain, but once I filtered the sound and performance difference out it wasn't as much as I thought. :D

RU_Teg 01-26-2003 04:54 PM

^ oh okay cool, because thats what I'm thinking about doing for my integra and people always tell me its going to sound raspy...they've even said its going to sound like a bunch of pissed off bumble bees...lol

pdiggitydogg 01-26-2003 05:57 PM

hey Teg, ill still sell the tanabe to you ;)

sohc_vtec 2NR 01-26-2003 07:50 PM

speedandstylecom 01-27-2003 01:41 PM

i have a 96 EK and i have a Super racing Madeallion from Tanabe, and it sounds awsome, the sound is deep and it demands attention, but it doesn't bother you while you drive it sounds good, i recommend it.

wheresmylicense 01-28-2003 10:10 PM

i think that's what i'm guna end up with... accompanied by DC headers and AEM CAI

96civicex 01-28-2003 11:19 PM

i have a question about the sound. i can't really explain the sound but i'll try. my cat back is pretty deep and clear but when i punch it and it gets to about 4 grand it kind of makes a sound that i have heard on other hondas but some don't. i really wish i could figure out why.

is it vtec that you're hearing? that would kick in a little bit higher though.
Also most cars sound better in the higher RPMs, that's just how it is. Most of the cars that I have driven sound deeper and better after 3.5-4k RPMs.

96civicex 01-29-2003 09:59 AM

yeah its vtec, but would the vtec make the exhaust itself sound like that
