ok ex questions

I've found a 97 Honda Civic EX, I think I'll buy it(see it pays to hold off) but here's the thing, obviously someone had already started modifing it, it's got a cold air intake on it, msd ignition, some of the interior is painted, chrome rims, etc... because of this the dealer(small dealer) is selling it cheap b/c he figures no one will want to buy it, about 2 to 3 thousand below, I'm gonna get it checked out(it has almost 80000 miles on it already) but if I do get this, and I'm not used to working on Honda's, how hard is mantience if it's needed? Ok I know you're tired of helping me shop for now but I'm trying to get into the flow of things. Thanks

maintence on EXs isn't that bad, most of the stuff can be done by someone with basic wrenching abilities.

Civic are really pretty easy to work on. They have a good bit of extra room under the hood so it makes getting around pretty easy. :)

You, like they said.. working on a civic is quit simple..

On a different note.. That car seems to have some performance mods, which would mean that it was probably driven quiet hard. Thats not good. Now we dont know how hard it was driven, but you'll have to find out.

The compression is a key factor here.

Also check out the suspension, wheel bearings, how the tires are worn..

also see if any of the belts have been replaced as well, esp the timing belt. cv boots are a good thing to check as well cuz the car may have been lowered (if its not already) and he may have just swapped out the springs (if its not already lowered).

How many miles are we talking here? Do a compression test asap and spit out the #'s here. Does it smoke blue at all? Drive erratic?

Also listen for any funny noises when you test drive it. Thats usually a good indacation that theres something wrong with it.

if everything goes ok, then get it... if not, be patient and wait some more until you find something reaalllyyy nice (find a granny who doesnt want a civic anymore...hehehe)
