auto ---> manual + swap
hi all friend
me am wanting to put new ENGINE in car... i got a DX.... yea... :tp: :yuck: ..... :santa: Anyway that has nothing to do with my question. I prolly won't be able to afford a swap until AT LEAST the summer. But i have so many questions that need to be answered before then and i gotta ask them all before i forget. k... i want to change my car from AUTOMATIC to MANUAL. How hard will this be AND will it be better to do it the same time as the engine swap? By better i mean, cost less, easier... :ricer: |
i would do it when you get teh swap since most swaps are sold with a tranny.. and a d series tranny is not compatibal with a b series tranny.. SOOO... youd be better just to wait.. i personaly dont know whats involved for auto to manual.. im sure someone else can answer that.. but as far as timing goes.. WAIT

you'll need minor stuff that you can find in a slavage yard such as a new cluster, different slave cylinders, clutch, flywheel (those, if not included with the swap), and of course the pedal assembly. Don't forget the shift linkage also.
If you cant manage to scrap these out of a wrecked manual civic of your generation, egay is always a nice place to try.. |
Oh, and I was planning to do this myself, but I figured I'll just get a hatchback instead :)

MOST swaps come with linkage.. or at least the 3 that i have personal expieriance with.. |
really? I wouldn't know... Most of the lists they include are... tranny clutch ecu axles, etc and they actually say "etc."
|
definately do it when you do the swap...it will be so much easier and save you tons o time in the long run
|
just buy a new car, in the end you'll have more money and less grey hair

Exactly. It is a lot easier to just buy a manual. I know a few people who were going to do the conversion, but they all gave up. Too much effort. |
i USED to think they weretoo much trouble.. but over the years i have been corrected.. although i can not personaly vouche for the ease of the swap.... ive had many tell me that since car shells are made in a fairly generic fashion that the manual stuff bolts up fairly easily.. the issue is cost... i can solve your issue quite easily... you have a 97 auto.. autos in general are worth more... trade it in on a 96 stick.. adn i bet it will be close to an even trade..you probably wont even lose anything

alrighty thanx for all the help!!
|
OH! do u think me getting the swap in a new manual car will be better? or should i get the swap in my automatic?
|
i swapped a crx from auto to manual... its just aligning the pedals thats a *****, and thats not even that bad
|
cool, in my DX, won't i hav to move the park brake back or something? or is everything stay the same and i just put the manual gearbox rite where the auto shifter used to be?  :loco: :loco: :loco:
