installing my coilovers
ok Im pretty pissed right now. I called my fav suspension place and they only install their own parts (supplied), same goes for every other suspension shop in my area, except for one place that says it takes 8 hours and they will charge me $400. Thats almost what i paid for em. So Im going to do it myself. Is this more than I want to get into? Can I do this with the limited knowlege that I have? Granted I plan on going and buying a manual first but can i do this? I know I'll have to take it in for alignment after.
It's not too bad, what are you installing? just the springs? or the spring and shock assembly?
You'll need to go rent a spring compressor to get your stock spring off the assembly so you cau reuse the top mounts. I'm going to have mine done when I get them because I don't have the tools or space to try it myself. The shop I'd get them from charges $100 to install.
didn't he get a tokico illumina full coil setup? he doesn't even need the stock assembly any more.. So, it'll be extremely easy to install. you dont even need the spring compressor.
agreed.. defiantely do NOT need the compressor.. actualy when we did ours (coil overs.. disasembly of the shock tower) we didn't use a compressor... and it went fine

heres a plan, lets help eachother!! :)
im installing my coilovers as well.. but they're just sleeves :( |
Have you been to JDMfan.com?http://www.jdmfan.com/technical/susp...eed_coilovers/
That should help. JDMfan has some really detailed info. Thats where I learned how to advance my timing too. |
hmm...now that i read over the info that there is there...I could use it too
I read over it too, seems relatvely painless.
it's not that hard to install. usually i can do it on an accord in about 3 hrs, but it took 4 days for mine to have the front budhings pressed out and have them replaced with polyurethane bushings
I posted a how-to install coilover sleeves.. in the "how to" section.
All you have to do is follow the instructions except omit the part when i'm talking about swapping the springs. You just need to remove your strut assembly and slap in the tokico ones. should take you no more than 2 hrs with a friend. (if that even..) |
awesome
did you ever get it done? how about some pics!
no its too cold to do it right now and i have no one to help...plus im being really lazy. I think later this week its supposed to be in the 50s...maybe Ill do it then
gl with it.
Yours is actually a 1 man job. If you can get like a buddy to come over, it doesn't matter if he/she knows anything about cars. Just get them to hold the strut while you tighten the top or something.
