H22A4 REbuild...
Has anyone here rebuilt an H22A4 ?? I'm looking for honing techniques on the FRM sleeves. Any comments or suggestions ??

yeah i'll be rebuilding it myself if I do it. I rebuild the B-series motors once in a while, but I haven't rebuilt an H22. The H22's have fiber reinforced metal sleeves. You need to run stock rings and cast pistons with them. I was wondering if there are any special honing techniques with these sleeves. I assume there would be.

you cannot use the same type of sleve the h22's have in them if you plan on running new pistons, i am not sure what the stock sleeve is (iron? aluminum?) but basicaly, the fordged pistons will be like rubbing on sandpaper against a h22 stock sleeve, this is one thing i know is a huge difference between b and h serise motors. im going to do some research on your plans though, and report back with my findings :bandit:

in my chilton's manual it says to use just a regular hone when honing them, but then again that's a h22a1

im not 100% on this, but i think open deck the sleeves arnt connected and theres a space ontop of the block(where a block gaurd would go) and closed deck is like an open deck motor with a block gaurd but one piece, has the oil lines run through the block better i think, and is a stronger design.

This is a pic of a 92-96 closed deck H22A1.
And this is a pic of an open deck S2K block. Similar to the H22A4. ouch !! The H22A1 is a really strong block design compaired to the H22A4, although the H22A4 has superior cooling because it is open deck. What all does it say about honing the sleeve in your book ?? |

yeah, 5th gen preludes stole ALOT from 4th gens though. engine, suspension, brakes... definitaly not styling though :pfft:
