B16 vs B18

I'm looking to find what engine would be better for my del sol(b16 or b18). Just wondering if one was better in some area or are they basicly the same. Thanks

I think that'll depend on what series B16 or 18 you want. I don't know much about the B16's but the B18a is 130hp, B18b is 140hp and the B18c is 170hp(I think those are right #'s)

ASTS123 12-10-2002 02:29 PM

it would either be the b18c5 or the b16b

ShEaNy 12-11-2002 12:18 AM

there almost the same..just different compression... i think..and a bit of horse i think on the b18C5.. i would go with a B18C5...i think thats a Type R engine..

a96710 12-11-2002 12:36 AM

Yep...B18c5 is a type R engine. I think it's 195hp compared to I think 180hp on the b16b

ShEaNy 12-11-2002 12:38 AM

2002+.. 220 horse;)

ASTS123 12-11-2002 09:58 AM

would i be able to put the2002 in my del sol? and if i could haw hard are they to come by?

a96710 12-11-2002 12:31 PM

I think he's refering to a K20a which they put into the new RSX's. I'm not sure on the availability

ChrisCantSkate 12-16-2002 09:38 AM

very expensive and you have to make your own mubnts... forget about that one.b18c1 if you were t ask me... whgat do you want to do with the car after the engine is swapped in?

PooH DiGGLianO 12-17-2002 01:06 PM

I suggest you put a b18a/b(LS Integra) if you want to do a turbo setup. If you're going with a fast N/A engine, go with the b18C5(integra type r). If you're going with a more reliable, but fast engine, then go with the b16A(Civic Si-R I). The rod to stroke ratio is more balanced

Mirkwo0dForest 12-19-2002 07:39 AM

b16b @ 170 u say... how much do they run.... cause i wuz gonna swap my crap DX engine for a b18c5 but they are super expensive... so... yea...

Mirkwo0dForest 12-19-2002 07:40 AM

180 HP**.... my mistake

anyway how much for b16b?

a96710 12-19-2002 07:06 PM

According to Osakajdmmotors.com the B16b is $3700.

not REMOTELY true. the ONLY thing they share is their tranny.
the block is a totally different cast.
the head is different.
the manifolds are different

the list goes on.

if you want boost- go LS
if you want NA, go b18c spec R

if you want a motor, STAY THE F U C K away from osaka.
don't belive me? read this and the links inside.

100% agreed.

Go with a B18C1 Integra GSR motor. they are better than the type R b18c5 because the handle boost better and they are more buildable than the B16's.
